TDK employees embark on charity bike ride

TDK Corporation is pleased to announce that two TDK-Lambda UK employees will be embarking on a charity cycle ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End. Starting on June 19th 2015, the two riders aim to complete the 916 mile endeavor in nine days. All money raised will go to Cancer Research UK.

Clamp AC current sensors target energy management systems

Clamp AC current sensors designed for use in the power distribution panels of a variety of energy management systems have been released by TDK. The CCT series devices are rated for 300 and 80A and have a current transformation ratio of 3000:1, offering maximum output currents of 100 and 26.6mA, respectively. ASE & TDK to manufacture IC embedded substrates

Thyristor module operates up to 690VAC

A thyristor module with an expanded operating voltage range up to 690VAC has been introduced by TDK. Designed for PFC, the EPCOS TSM-LC-N690 performs two-phase switching of the capacitors, removing the need for a neutral conductor. Depending on the operating voltage, the module is designed for a reactive power of 40 to 75KVAR and can switch currents of up to 60A.

Transponder coils are 'world's smallest'

Compact EPCOS SMT transponder coils have been released by TDK. Measuring just 4.5x3.2x3.2mm, the TC1812 has an inductance of 2.38mH and is designed for operation in the Z-axis. The TC1210 coil is available with an inductance value of 1.08mH or 1.34mH, depending on type, and is suitable for operation in either the X- or Y-axis. According to the company, the TC1210 is the world’s smallest transponder coil, measuring just 3.2x2.5x2.2mm.

High-performance EMC filters have a compact design

TDK has announced a series of very compact three-line EMC filters for frequency converters. These high-performance filters are suitable for a rated voltage of 530VAC in 50/60Hz grids. The B84243A8x series currently comprises seven different types that are designed for currents of between 3 and 60A - based on a rated temperature of 50°C.

Ring-shaped power capacitors suit EV applications

Suitable for use as a DC link capacitor in EV and HEV applications, TDK has announced a power capacitor with an innovative ring configuration, the RingCap. The device can be integrated into a clutch bell housing or wheel hub motors and its dimensions can be adapted according to the specific requirements of the customer: the outer diameter may be up to 315mm, while its width is no more than 50mm.

EV heating element self-regulates, ensuring stability

In contrast to traditional heating elements for conventional 12V onboard power supplies, TDK's recently-released EPCOS PTC heating elements are designed for the considerably higher voltages found in EV batteries. The rated voltages of these heating elements range from 200 to 500V, producing surface temperatures of up to 250°C. Depending on design, these heating elements are suitable for safe operation at up to 1000V.

A fully revised data book on EPCOS aluminium electrolytic capacitors with crew terminal, snap-in, axial and single-ended connections, has been released by TDK. The B43704/B43724 and B43705/B43725 series of screw-terminal capacitors, which feature a significantly improved current capability, are included within the book.

Halogen-free MLCCs support the design of green applications

Two series of leaded MLCCs, which are halogen-free according to IEC 61249-2-21, have been released by TDK. The FG series consists of commercial-grade devices, while the FA series consists of automotive-grade devices. To support the design of environmentally friendly applications, the MLCCs do not use halogen as a flame retardant in the external resin coating.

Multilayer low pass filter achieves 50% size reduction

TDK has released a multilayer low-pass filter for LTE and other next-gen high-speed wireless communication systems. Thanks to thinner ceramic layers, finer conductor lines and an optimised internal electrode design, the DEA071910LT-4003B1 achieves a miniaturised footprint of 0.65x0.5mm and a slimmer insertion height of just 0.3mm (form factor 06505).

The UK Intellectual Property Office has approved TDK-Lambda UK’s power supply PFC controller patent application. The requirement for industrial power supplies to limit harmonic currents has existed for many years, and in Europe the standard is defined by EN 61000-3-2.

Power inductors offer rated inductance values of 1.0-470μH

Designed for use in automotive electronics, the CLF6045NI-D series of wirewound SMD power inductors has been released by TDK. Operating across a temperature range of 55 to +150 °C, the components offer rated inductance values of 1.0-470μH (E6 series). The power inductors, which measure 6.3x6.0x 4.5mm, are available for rated currents of 0.28- 6.7A and offer DC resistance values ranging from 1.1mΩ to 1.30Ω.
