Current sense resistor from Ohmite combines two technologies

Expanding its metal foil/metal element construction into higher power levels, Ohmite has combined the internal technology of their new FCSL Series with the TO-220 packaging of their TBH Series to achieve handling in excess of 25A. This creates a resistor which is designed for a variety of applications requiring intermediate heatsinkable power at an economical price.

Current Sense Resistors from Ohmite

Using metal resistive elements made from Nickel-Chromium or Cupron (Manganin-Copper) the new MCS Series of SMD flip chip resistors from Ohmite have a very low TCR of <50ppm/°C over the range of current sense values which are popular in portable, battery operated equipment and power supplies.

Manufacturing process reduces resistor size

By introducing new, high temperature materials in the manufacture of their resistors, Ohmite is able to supply a new 4 watt resistor in what is close to a 3 watt package size. The resistor manufacturer argues that since most design engineers derate their components by as much as 50% to increase circuit reliability, the new 14AFR will allow for a smaller package size than existing products.

Metal Foil resistor series from Ohmite

Ohmite has launched its first Metal Foil resistor series designed to meet the demands, among other applications, of manufacturers of battery powered devices who are looking for tight tolerances for the accurate measurement of current draw and a low TCR so that the resistor value will not drift too much as temperatures increase.

Resistors have very low resistance

Ideal for many current monitoring and precision control applications, Ohmite’s new TGHG Series SOT-227 type resistors are available in resistance values as low as 0.0005 ohms. The non inductive, thick film power resistors, when used with the appropriate heatsink, are equally suited to high power current monitoring up to100W. Providing highly reliable, non inductive performance the TGHG features a four terminal Kelvin connection to isolate m...

NEW CLIP MOUNTING METHOD DESIGNED FOR OHMITE’S TK/TN RESISTORS IS THERMALLY SUPERIOR

A new method of heatsinking has been developed by Ohmite which is proving popular with design engineers because it solves the problem creating a gap if the screw is overtightened when installing conventional TO-220 resistors and creates optimal thermal transfer between the resistor (or semiconductor) and the heatsink.
