Toshiba has today introduced a new microcontroller based on the ARM Cortex M3 processor. Enabling control of both motor drives and overall systems, the new TMPM384FDFG MCU combines large capacity memory with multi-purpose timer channels, AD converters and enhanced I/O ports into a single device.

Both integrating a microcontroller and software, motor control applications generally consist of a motor drive unit and a system control unit. Enabling the use of a single microcontroller and software to perform both functions, the TMPM384FDFG will promote more efficient system development and help reduce development and production costs.

Equipped with 512 Kbyte flash memory and 32 Kbyte SRAM, the TMPM384FDFG requires a single 5V power supply. It is therefore suited to applications including motor control devices and home appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwave ovens, water heaters and industrial equipment.

Enabling both motor and IGBT control, the new TX03 series microcontroller features highly accurate 22-channel 12-bit analog-to-digital converters, enhanced I/O ports and 4-channel multi-purpose timers.

Measuring just 20 mm x 20mm with 0.5 mm pitch, the 144 pin TMPM384FDFG is housed in an LQFP144 package. Mass production is scheduled to start in November this year.
