RealVNC will be at Telematics Munich 2010, on 3rd-4th November to showcase its VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive that provides remote access and control of mobile devices and desktop computers, directly from in-vehicle telematics or infotainment systems.
With growing demand to access mobile devices from vehicle head units and aftermarket infotainment systems, RealVNC has harnessed its VNC technology to create a solution that can automatically detect, access and control virtually any mobile device or desktop computerfrom the vehicle's touch-screen or fixed input devices such as steering wheel switches and head unit buttons and menus. RealVNC maintains the VNC Server software running on the mobile devices for all operating systems and new mobile devices, removing the burden that exists for car manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to continuously upgrade in-vehicle system software to keep pace within the fast moving mobile market.

Interest in VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive has accelerated since Telematics Detroit which took place in June this year. RealVNC has already signed several agreements with OEMs and equipment suppliers including a partnership with Wipro to provide remote access to mobile phone applications for in-vehicle usage. Nagamani Murthy, Vice President, Product Engineering Services (PES), Wipro, commented, We found VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive to be robust and easy to integrate in a typical infotainment head unit environment using our platform agnostic generic Connectivity Framework solution.

RealVNC also recently announced support for Nokia’s Terminal Mode, which is based on VNC technology. The Terminal Mode specification is proposed by Nokia and CE4A (Consumer Electronics for Automotive) as an industry standard for integrating mobile technology in a vehicle environment and has already led to collaborations with Fiat, Continental, Alpine Electronics, Harman Becker, Valmet Automotive and Magneti Marelli.

RealVNC continues to provide cross-platform solutions with all leading mobile devices supported, including Windows Mobile, Symbian and Blackberry, as well as development versions of iPhone, Android, WebOS and Linux. VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive is an OEM package and supports a range of in-vehicle embedded operating systems including Linux, Windows XP, Automotive, CE, QNX, Qt, Android, µITRON, T-Kernel and other proprietary operating systems.

Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile, RealVNC said, “We had extremely positive feedback following Telematics Detroit and look forward to showing the benefits of our VNC technology as a cross-platform embedded remote mobile solution to the attendees of Telematics Munich.” Blackie continues, “The Telematics events are an ideal platform for us to showcase VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive to the world’s leading automotive manufactures and equipment providers.”
