Northern.tech’s software update orchestration by Mender has been shortlisted for the Electronics Excellence Awards under the Software category.
The new software update orchestration in Mender enables advanced coordination and management of software updates across complex, interconnected systems. As connected products become more sophisticated incorporating more controllers, processors, and applications – managing updates independently becomes untenable.
Mender enables OEMs to define the desired software configuration of an entire system and coordinate updates across its components. By managing update sequencing, tracking installed software versions, and automatically coordinating rollback when supported by the underlying components, Mender helps reduce update complexity and the risk of incompatible software configurations throughout the product lifecycle.
Mender automatically coordinates system-level rollbacks when the underlying components support it, reducing the risk of incompatible software states following failed updates. Its Linux-based orchestration functionality uses extensible Interfaces to coordinate updates across different hardware and software components through their supported update mechanisms. With Mender, OEMs can build on existing update tools without requiring every component to use the same operating system or update technology, supporting more reliable software maintenance and management throughout the product lifecycle.
