Electronics Mentoring has launched as an international initiative to help mid-career professionals take greater ownership of their career development, with support from industry colleagues committed to helping others progress.

Launching on National Mentoring Day, 27th October, the mentoring initiative will connect mid-career electronics professionals with experienced industry leaders. Mentees will benefit from direct one-to-one meetings with mentors who bring a deep understanding of the sector and support them through careful listening, thoughtful questions, and relevant insights from their own experience.

Electronics Mentoring is being developed with guidance from an advisory group bringing together talented consultants working with industry associations and businesses, alongside experts in mentoring, leadership coaching, and employee engagement. The initiative is also in advanced discussions with a mentoring charity about providing guidance for those taking on a mentoring role.

Research into the semiconductor workforce highlights some of the pressures facing the wider electronics industry. The European Chips Skills Academy estimates that hardware engineers will represent more than half of the EU semiconductor industry’s projected shortage of technical workers by 2030. Meanwhile, a UK government study published in 2025 estimated that 39% of the UK semiconductor workforce will retire within 15 years.

Nayl D’Souza, Launch Coordinator at Electronics Mentoring, said: “The electronics industry has people with decades of experience, but that knowledge can leave with them when they retire. At the same time, mid-career professionals may be ready for a change or a new challenge but feel a little stuck. We want to help connect these people, giving mentors the opportunity to draw on their experience while helping mentees work out what comes next.”

Electronics Mentoring is now building its network of mentors. Electronics professionals interested in becoming mentors can contact the organisation through the website: https://www.electronicsmentoring.com

Further information for prospective mentees will be shared later this year.
