ByteSnap Design has introduced a free online Project Success Calculator to help manufacturers and product developers quickly assess the feasibility of their embedded systems projects before committing resources to development.

Designed to avoid costly development failures, the new tool guides users through a 10-question assessment covering project type, development stage, timeline, regulatory requirements, technical challenges, team capability, and risk tolerance.

In just minutes, the free tool generates a personalised Success Probability Score ranging from 0 to 500+. Based on the responses provided, it also delivers practical guidance and prioritised steps to help mitigate project risks.

Graeme Wintle, Director, ByteSnap Design, commented: “In 2026, the margin for error in electronics development has essentially vanished. Component scarcity, tightening cybersecurity regulations like the EU Cyber Resilience Act, and increasingly complex SoC integration mean that projects which start without a clear-eyed view of their risks rarely recover from early missteps. We built this tool so that any manufacturer, regardless of how technical they are, can get an honest assessment of where their project stands before a single component is ordered.”

ByteSnap Design’s new calculator evaluates project roadmaps against more than 18 years of engineering delivery data, drawing on experience across a wide range of development contexts, including:

  • IoT and connected devices
  • ATEX / intrinsically safe equipment for hazardous environments
  • FPGA and custom silicon implementations
  • Firmware and embedded software projects
  • Medical devices and safety-critical systems subject to IEC 62304 or ISO 13485
  • Industrial and automation equipment

For each electronic product development project profile, the tool identifies potential bottlenecks around regulatory compliance (including IEC 62304, ISO 26262, and ATEX certification). It also assesses team capability gaps, hardware and firmware specification feasibility, supply chain vulnerabilities, and cybersecurity obligations under frameworks such as EN 18031 and IEC 62443.

Since its founding in 2008, ByteSnap Design has delivered hundreds of successful projects. The risk assessment methodology underpinning the calculator draws on more than 400 man-years of embedded systems project experience across ByteSnap Design’s expert engineering teams.

No technical documentation is required to complete the assessment. Users only need a working knowledge of their project’s goals and high-level requirements.
