Intersil has introduced a 2.5A, wide input voltage synchronous buck regulator that greatly reduces noise and EMI filter requirements through programmable switching frequency and external synchronisation. The integrated switching MOSFETs and a thermally enhanced compact 4 x 4mm QFN package make the ISL8502 an ideal fit for 5V/12Vin space-critical applications.
Unlike competitive devices, the ISL8502 features external synchronisation capability with master/slave configuration to enable the user to synchronise up to four ICs out of phase and significantly reduce EMI in the design while also providing multiple outputs from the same input rail. The device’s adjustable switching frequency range of 500kHz to 1.2MHz ensures high efficiency and a smaller number of external BOM components. The external compensation provides additional flexibility and enables various choices of passive devices.

Target applications for the ISL8502 include point-of-load applications, set-top boxes, ADSL modems, switches, routers, graphics cards, FPGA power, ASICs and memory power supplies.

The ISL8502 is available now in a 24-lead QFN package.
