Dialog Semiconductor announced that its DA7211 audio codec IC has been adopted by Samsung Electronics to deliver the highest level of audio performance in its recently launched YP-Q3AB MP3 player. Important features in the selection of the DA7211 by Samsung were that the device consumes the industry's absolute lowest quiescent headphone playback power consumption of 2.5mW and only 5mW operating power under listening conditions. The unique general purpose filter, architected to provide functions such as programmable 5 band EQ and 3D sound on an 80uW budget, provides an extremely low power flexible signal processing engine to work in conjunction with various third party audio algorithms.
Samsung's Q3 player hosts a wide range of enhanced high quality Samsung proprietary audio features including: SoundAlive(TM), enabling deeper bass and greater tone articulation; Virtualizer, delivering a 5.1 channel surround sound experience while using headphones; Room Modelling, recreating space perception; Seven-band Equalizer, allowing fine-tuning the sound levels; Audio Upscaler, restoring lost sounds from compression; and Clarity, improving the reproduction of human voice and instruments. The device also includes a Video player and FM radio.

Samsung commented; The Samsung Q3 combines exceptional sound quality with an intuitive interface in a sleek design, allowing consumers to get a full concert experience when playing music and videos. Working with Dialog allowed us to significantly extend the battery life of the Q3, achieve a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of greater than 96 dB and offer an unprecedented mix of enhanced audio features to our consumers.

Udo Kratz, vice president and general manager for audio and power management at Dialog commented; We are extremely pleased to have further strengthened our relationship with Samsung, a top tier consumer device supplier, via the design-in of our audio codec in the company's latest line of popular MP3 Players, which builds on our previous display product success with the company.
