ON Semiconductor , has been named a winner of Electronic Product Design’s 2011 e-Legacy Awards. The company’s Q32M210 precision mixed-signal microcontroller for precision measurement and monitoring was selected as the winner in the Medical Advances category.

Designed for use in portable sensing applications, the highly-integrated Q32M210 provides a unique combination of high performance and reliable operation with exceptional power efficiency, enabling product developers to quickly and efficiently deploy a range of products at different price/performance points.

”We are honored to be recognized by Electronic Product Design as a company that is shaping the future of the medical electronics industry,” said Michel De Mey, senior director for ON Semiconductor's consumer health product line. “The Q32M210 microcontroller will help electronics designers meet the rapidly growing end-market demand for portable sensing equipment such as blood glucose metering, wireless ECG and pulse oximeters, as well as other non-medical applications including home energy displays and fitness monitoring. The device sets new standards for precision operation and addresses the very real concern of battery life in portable devices.”

As demand for reduced healthcare spending drives more out-patient and home care, the requirement for portable medical sensing devices that collect, analyze and log patient data such as blood glucose levels, ECG waveforms and oxygen saturation is increasing. Q32M210 addresses this growing need by featuring dual 16-bit ADCs, which offer a highly accurate voltage reference and triple 10-bit DACs. These ultra-low noise ADCs offer true 16-bit performance that supports very high precision sensing, unlike competing converters where non-linearity and noise can reduce the number of effective bits.

Further differentiators include the the integrated programmable 32-bit ARM® Cortex™-M3 core, enabling code portability and a configurable, low-noise analog front-end. Q32M210 also integrates on-chip power supervision, flash memory with error checking and correction circuitry, and a generous range of peripheral interfaces that are able to drive displays and user interfaces and support data connections including USB.

Embedded Systems Conference – Booth 1022
ON Semiconductor will be showcasing Q32M210 at the Embedded Systems Conference on September 27 & 28th at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston – booth 1022.
