Plans to manage UK grid stability underway
It has been announced by NEC Corporation that its subsidiary NEC Energy Solutions (NEC ES), is supplying OErsted UK with a 20MW, GSS Grid Storage Solution. Once completed and operational by the end of 2018, the system will be used to provide services to the UK's National Grid to help manage grid stability during changes between peak and low power demand.
NEC brings AI to submarine cable networks
NEC Corporation has announced successful transmission tests that took place over a commercial subsea cable measuring more than 10,000 kilometers using AI and probabilistic shaping at a modulation of 64QAM. NEC, in a joint research publication with Google, has demonstrated for the first time that the FASTER open subsea cable can be upgraded to a spectral efficiency of 6 bits per second per hertz (b/s/Hz) in an 11,000km segment.
5G contributes to remote medical examination trials
NEC Corporation has announced its contributions to field trials in remote medical examinations using 5G. NEC provided a base station system as part of comprehensive 5G demonstration experiments carried out by NTT DOCOMO, the Wakayama Prefectural Government, and Wakayama Medical University and hosted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
Simultaneous digital beamforming supports 5G communications
With a massive-element active antenna base station system that supports a 28GHz band for 5G communications, NEC has announced the successful transmission of digital beamforming. This is the first time simultaneous beamforming transmission (four multi-user MIMO) from a single massive-element active antenna system (AAS) to four terminals has succeeded. In this test, NEC achieved a 3.1Gbps cell throughput by applying a frequency bandwidth of 30...
The future of 5G is coming to Mobile World Congress
At this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) which is taking place from 26th February to 1st March at the Fira Gran Via, Barcelona, NEC will be exhibiting in hall 3, stand 3M30. The company has announced the presentation of technologies and solutions for working together with telecom carriers in the co-creation of new business models and the implementation of 5G solutions.
Submarine cable links the Republic of Palau
The construction of a new submarine cable linking the Republic of Palau has been completed by Belau Submarine Cable and NEC. It is now ready for commercial service. The Palau Spur interconnects with the existing SEA-US submarine cable (which connects the Philippines and Indonesia to the west coast of the United States via Guam and Hawaii) from a branching unit located between the Philippines and Guam.
Facial recognition system adopted by cities across the world
An advanced surveillance system for cities using facial recognition has been provided to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, in cooperation with Capital Systems LLC, by NEC.
NEC enables ink dots to become identification tags
NEC has announced the development of a "micro-sized Identifier Dot on Things" (mIDoT) technology that enables single dots written with off-the-shelf glitter ink pens to become distinctive identification tags. mIDoT analyses camera images with a specialised algorithm to quickly and accurately recognise tiny patterns in the ink of individual dots, which are difficult to duplicate or identify with the naked eye.
NEC provides facial recognition system to South Wales Police
NEC has announced that it has provided a facial recognition system for South Wales Police in the UK through NEC Europe. The system utilises NeoFace Watch, NEC's flagship facial recognition software platform featuring the world's highest recognition precision. NeoFace Watch is used for real-time CCTV surveillance, as well as still image and recorded video face search, which helps to ensure security in crowded locations, such as airports and s...
Preserving security at the world's third highest observation deck
A facial recognition system in Seoul Sky, an observatory in Lotte World Tower, a 123-floor, 555m (1,823ft.) high skyscraper located in Seoul, South Korea, has been provided by NEC.
Partnership in virtualisation for high performance computing
NEC Europe and ebb3 has announced a strategic partnership to deploy 3D business applications virtually using ebb3’s innovative technology. The partnership will combine ebb3’s in-depth knowledge of networks and virtualisation with NEC’s global market presence, bringing a High Performance Virtual Computer (HPVC) to NEC’s EMEA customer base.
Data processing tech accelerates machine learning
Data processing technology that accelerates the execution of machine learning on vector computers by more than 50 times in comparison to Spark technologies has been developed by NEC. This newly developed data processing utilises computing and communications technologies that leverage 'sparse matrix' data structures in order to significantly accelerate the performance of vector computers in machine learning.
NEC software uses facial recognition to verify mobile service users
