Collaboration to deliver 5G open vRAN solution
NEC Corporation and Mavenir have announced a collaboration to deliver a 5G Open vRAN (virtualised RAN) Solution to the Japanese Enterprise Market. This will open up Local/Private 5G Network opportunities for enterprises, regional authorities and other organisations.
Combined data approach to accelerate new materials
Researchers in Japan have developed a combined data approach that can better predict the properties of materials by combining high throughput experimental and calculation data together with machine learning. The approach could help hasten the development of new materials, and was published in the journal Science and Technology of Advanced Materials.
Fibre pair subsea telecom cable systems qualified
NEC Corporation and its subsidiary OCC Corporation have announced that they have completed full qualification of subsea repeaters and optical cable containing up to 20 fibre pairs (40 fibres). This is a 25% improvement in fibre count over 16 fibre pair systems previously built by NEC.

High-definition video transmission test utilising 5G
Network technology specialist, NEC Corporation has contributed to a high-definition video transmission test utilising 5G with a high-speed train, conducted by NTT Communications, NTT DOCOMO and TOBU RAILWAY through the provision of a 5G base station. Facial recognition at airport customs in Japan
It has been announced that NEC Corporation has received an order from Japan Customs for an electronic customs procedure gate featuring facial recognition for use at the customs inspection area at Japan's busiest international airport. Demonstration trials of the electronic customs procedure gate are scheduled to begin at Terminal 3 of Narita International Airport from April 2019.

South Atlantic Cable System ready for service
It has been announced by Angola Cables S.A. and NEC Corporation, that the construction of the world's first submarine cable system across the South Atlantic has been completed and is now ready for commercial service. The South Atlantic Cable System (SACS) will connect Angola and Brazil, directly linking the African continent to Latin America across the South Atlantic for the first time.

NEC Corporation has announced an investment in Tascent, a US-based biometric system company, with the aim of accelerating the global expansion of its safety business. The amount of the investment is not disclosed. Recently, the demand for multimodal biometric identification to further bolster security is rapidly growing.
