Nanopower ultra-low ripple buck regulator for connected devices
Two new products have been announced by Dialog Semiconductor, with the DA9232 and the DA9233 Nanopower PMICs. The new additions improve the performance of the DC/DC buck converter from the original DA9230 and DA9231 by producing an even lower ripple, perfect for use with sensitive analog circuitry, such as GPS receivers used in wearables.
The DA923x family continues to differentiate us versus competition by offering dynamic output voltage control (via I²C), sub 1uA Iq and the ability to work with up to 5.5V inputs, making it ideal for lithium ion batteries or USB input products.
The DA9232 is a high efficiency, ultra-low quiescent current and ultra-low output ripple buck regulator in a compact I2C configurable WLCSP package targeting battery powered applications needing low ripple and highly efficient power supplies.
The battery life of these devices is significantly improved due to the low quiescent current delivered by DA9232 during operation and shutdown. Dynamic Voltage Control in the Buck regulator facilitates optimisation across the system power modes enabling further improvement in system efficiency and battery life.
The DA9233 is a high efficiency, ultra-low quiescent current buck regulator and ultra-low quiescent current LDO in a compact I2C configurable WLCSP package. The Buck regulator also features ultralow output ripple (<10mV). It is targeting battery powered applications needing low ripple and highly efficient power supplies.
The buck regulator extends high light load efficiency down to 20 μA further extending battery life. Dynamic Voltage Control in the Buck regulator facilitates optimisation across the system power modes enabling further improvement in System efficiency and battery life.
The low quiescent current LDO can be configured as a Load Switch and provides the second supply output. The LDO’s uncommitted inputs can be connected to either the battery or the buck output. Connecting the input to the buck output provides the flexibility to improve the PSRR at the LDO output as needed.
DA9233 provides multiple protection features and comes with the ability to monitor the events and indicators in the GPO pin.
