4D Systems launches two new display modules offering new, cost effective and versatile embedded graphics display solutions

4D Systems launched today two new display modules: uLCD-144(SGC) and uLCD-144(GFX). The new modules include a 1.44”, full colour active matrix LCD TFT display and are based on 4D Labs’ GOLDELOX-SGC and GOLDELOX-GFX2 chips. Their rich set of features, tiny form factor, low cost, and ease-of-use make them one of the most flexible graphics solutions available.

The display on the modules is a high quality and low cost 1.44”, 128 x 128 pixel, 65k colour TFT-LCD panel with a LED back light with greater than 150 degree viewing angle. The uLCD-144(SGC) and uLCD-144(GFX) include an embedded GOLDELOX-SGC serial graphics processor and GOLDELOX-GFX2 graphics processor respectively. Both modules support external SD/µSD memory cards for storing images, video clips, fonts and general purpose data logging. The uLCD-144(GFX) also includes 10K bytes of flash memory for user code storage and 510 bytes of RAM for user variables.

The iD-144-SGC offers a simple and effective serial interface to any host micro-controller that can communicate via a serial port. All screen related functions are sent using a simple protocol via the serial interface. The serial platform allows users to develop their application using their favourite micro-controller and software development tools. 4D Systems also provides handy software tools for testing and development.

The GOLDELOX-GFX2 chip embedded in the uLCD-144(GFX) display allows users to write applications using 4DGL (a high level 4D Graphics Language) that has syntax similar to popular languages such as BASIC, C and Pascal. 4DGL enables users to develop applications that run stand-alone on the display and gives access to additional I/O on the GOLDELOX-GFX2 chip. The two GPIO ports of the uLCD-144(GFX) support digital I/O, A/D converter with 8/10 bit resolution, complex sound generation, dedicated RTTTL tune engine, multi-switch joystick and Dallas1-Wire. 4DGL-Workshop3 – A comprehensive IDE that includes editor, compiler, linker and downloader is provided free of charge for developing complete 4DGL applications.

“We are very pleased with the new uLCD-144 series of display modules and these being the first new display module designs that we are producing in-house. Expanding our range to include a number of LCD display modules will provide our customers with more versatile opportunities to experiment with our GOLDELOX-SGC and GFX2 processors in application development. We are all about helping users simplify their application development process, reduce costs, development time and above all time-to-market, and the uLCD-144 is an excellent addition to our line of products in helping us help our customers.” – Sinan Aknar, Global Marketing and Director, 4D Systems

The uLCD-144(SGC) and uLCD-144(GFX) are available for purchase from your local distributors or resellers, or directly from 4D Systems. Single unit prices for the displays start at 29USD/23EUR. All software tools are available as a free download from 4D Systems’ website at www.4systems.com.au.
