In honour of the first SolarDay, a national day of recognition for the growth of solar energy in the U.S., Texas Instruments is announcing its sponsorship of the 2009 Solar Decathlon competition. As a returning sponsor , TI is investing in future innovators to help solve some of the world’s most critical energy problems.
Part of TI’s solar strategy is advancing designs of leading manufacturers of solar power equipment to increase energy output and drive costs down, which will help make solar power a viable option for consumers. TI semiconductors are integral components in innovative energy technologies, which help end-equipment designers find new ways to lower energy consumption, increase power efficiency and uncover new energy sources.

“TI has delivered embedded processing and analog solutions to the solar market for over a decade, and our efforts in the 2009 Solar Decathlon further solidify our commitment to the industry,” said Chris Schairbaum, director of energy technology strategy for Texas Instruments. “In just one hour the sun bathes the earth with a year’s supply of energy, yet solar energy supply still generates far less than one percent of the world’s electricity needs. Semiconductors are critical to turning more sunlight into economical electricity.”
