Vero Technologies, manufacturer of the iconic Veroboard family of prototyping boards, has introduced Fotoboard, a range of single and double sided blank Eurocard PCBs, covered with photosensitive resist. Fotoboard enables custom printed circuit boards to be made to your design in-house quickly and economically, saving time and money in sending files to an external PCB fabricator. The products have potential applications in R & D labs for design proving and realisation, in educational establishments for student projects and for hobbyists and modellers amongst others.
The 1.6mm thick boards are available in 100 x 160 and 220mm 3U single and 233 x 160 and 220mm 6U double Eurocard sizes in both single and double-sided format; the copper layer is 1oz as standard. The 5 microns thick resist film is high temperature cured which, combined with its tough plastic film laminate covering, results in a durable board that can be handled, accurately guillotined and processed in complete safety.

The process is extremely simple. A positive of the required circuit is output onto clear film using a standard desktop laser or inkjet printer from a CAD package; the protective plastic film peeled off the photoresist layer, which is then exposed under UV light to fix the image and the unwanted copper is then etched away to produce the circuit. Board cutting units, UV exposure units and develop, wash and etch tanks and their related consumables are all available, enabling a mini PCB production unit for low volume requirements to be set up extremely easily and cost-effectively.
