Assembléon is stressing the value of energy efficient pick & place at this year's IPC APEX Expo (Las Vegas April 12-14, Booth 508). While saving up to $10.000 in operating costs alone per pick & place machine per year, the low energy consumption of all A-Series solutions in the market today help to drastically reduce the SMT industry’s carbon footprint. The company is also using APEX to announce the extension of its compact, modular and economic MC-5 platform. The new MC-5X combines the best features of an MC-5 chip shooter and MC-5 odd form placer, with also well below the industry’s average electricity costs.

Saving energy to run more than 20,000 slot machines
Next to its installed base of thousands high mix solutions like the M-Series and the well-known Opal and Topaz machines, Assembléon has now delivered around 15,000 placement solutions from its high output A-Series portfolio to electronics equipment assemblers worldwide. These A-Series ammount to a total output capacity of 100 million components an hour at virtually zero defects.

The AX-301 and AX-501 solutions consume only half the electricity of competitors’ machines, which can save up to $10.000 in operating costs per machine per year. The energy savings from all these A-Series machines add up to more than 80,000 MWh annually, the equivalent of solar panels covering almost three times the fields of all 32 NFL American Football teams. Or, since this is the last IPC APEX Expo in Las Vegas, enough energy to run more than 20,000 slot machines 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Two machines in one
Assembléon’s latest MC-5X combines the features of the MC-5 chipshooter and MC-5 end-of line placer (Auto Tray Stacker version) in just 19.3 sq. feet (1.8 m2) of floorspace. The 20 kcph machine has up to 108 intelligent feeder slots, accepting a full component range with board sizes up to L22.6 x W18 inches (575 x 460 mm).
The MC-5X aims at manufacturers needing high quality manufacturing combined with fast feeder changeover and flexible operation. The lightweight intelligent feeders weigh only 24.7 oz (700 g) and can be unloaded and loaded in just 30 seconds. Supported by the ‘place your feeder anywhere’ feature, the systems are up and running for the next product in only minutes, at least doubling the number of products per day over systems with mechanical feeder handling.

Besides intuitive on-machine programming and optimization, the MC-5X has extensive offline data preparation and programming tools for creating grouped feeder setups. The MC platform machine now consists of the MC-1, MC-5, MC-8, MC-12, MC-24 and MC-24X. These machines consume up to 30% less energy compared to competing models, which also reduces electricity consumption for electronic manufacturers.
