PCIM 2026 took place in Nuremberg this week, attracting over 650 exhibitors from 27 countries, including more than 120 first-time exhibitors, with over 60% of visitors travelling internationally to attend. AI emerged as the dominant theme across the entire event, from the conference programme to the expo itself, cementing the technology as a development tool and a growth engine for power electronics.
James Willford, Head of Business Development at Semikron Danfoss commented: “The PCIM is power electronics! I would say that this event shapes the future of power electronics: it arms the engineers and business leaders of today with the building blocks that enable the power electronics systems of tomorrow.”
New stages, and plenty of knowledge shared
A fourth dedicated presentation stage made its debut this year, joining the existing Exhibitor, Technology, and E-Mobility & Energy Storage stages. The AI & Data Centres Stage was designed to reflect two of the fastest-growing areas intersecting with power electronics.
As Lisette Hausser, Vice President PCIM Expo & Conference, explained: “The PCIM 2026 once again demonstrated the vibrancy and innovation inherent in the power electronics industry. The response to the new formats and focus topics, especially AI and data centres, was overwhelmingly positive. This strengthens our resolve to keep improving the PCIM in line with the needs of the industry.”
Keinosuke Muraji of ROHM Semiconductor called the new focused stages a personal highlight: “It clearly demonstrated the growing importance of artificial intelligence for the power electronics industry, and what applications are already possible today.”
All stages offered attendees a wide range of specialist talks and discussion formats, delivering practical insights into current technological advancements, innovative solutions, and real-world applications. With their distinct focus topics, the individual stages provided a structured overview of the latest industry trends.
New launches
PCIM is the perfect event for companies to launch new products, and we saw many new innovations on the exhibition floor. One of which is Texas Instruments’ new automotive innovations.
Mark Ng, Director of Automotive Systems at Texas Instruments, explained why the event was the right place for this new launch: “PCIM for us is about how to innovate next in power, so it’s always about power for us,” he explained. There were two key innovations that TI launched at the event, an onboard charger, and one for storage. “It’s charging, storing, and also discharging. Those are the three big portions. And for us to be able to tell that story about how we’re enabling next generation efficient vehicles was important to us.”
PCIM 2027
PCIM 2027 will run from 11-13 May 2027, and seeing the success of this year’s show, it will surely be bigger and better than ever before.
