Over 300 companies, 136 managers of purchasing and R&D offices and more than 3,000 B2B appointments: these are the figures of the 2022 edition of VTM (Vehicle & Transportation Technology Innovation Meetings), the only business convention in Italy dedicated to the automotive and transport industry inaugurated today in Turin.

Record figures for this two-day event, promoted by the Piedmont Region and the Turin Chamber of Commerce and organised by ABE in collaboration with Ceipiemonte and ICE – Italian Trade Agency, confirming the absolute importance of this territory for the mobility sector.

Intesa Sanpaolo and Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center are the main sponsors of this business convention. As a sponsor, large international companies - AVL, BOSCH, Continental Engineering Services, CSI, Denso Italy, FEV, ITT, Keysight, Sabelt, Texa, Vishay - are returning to VTM 2022, in addition to prestigious brands such as Accenture, Blue engineering, Capgemini Engineering, Daca-I, Grape Up, Punch Torino, Segula. Industrial partner is Stellantis.

An opportunity not only for business, but for discussion on skills, innovations and issues of greater importance and topicality: from the digitisation of processes to the electrification of vehicles and batteries, hydrogen and innovative propulsion systems, software defined vehicles, ADAS systems and autonomous driving, connectivity and Big Data, micromobility and new models of sustainable and smart mobility.

"A third of the automotive companies are in Piedmont, 40% of the sector's turnover is produced in Piedmont and 40% of the 60,000 employees are in Piedmont. With the resources of the Pnrr and the European funds, together with the excellence of  the research of University and Polytechnic, we will give support to a sector that represents an extraordinary resource for Economy and Employment in  our Piedmont - the president of the Region Piemonte  Alberto Cirio has asserted - We will have occupation and wealth if we will invest in the world of the entrepreneurship, and in Piedmont we know how to do it ".

"We have excellent news for the automotive industry in Turin: the meeting with Stellantis has reaffirmed the centrality of our city not only in the production sector, but also in engineering and design – the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Turin Dario Gallina has explained- and today the new edition of VTM opens with numbers in clear growth: the attending companies have increased to over 300 (+15% compared to 2018), buyers have tripled, B2B meetings have grown (over 3,500). It is the confirmation of a joint work, carried out with institutions, companies and universities, that goes in the right direction to reaffirm a strategic and innovative international role in a rapidly changing market".

"Piedmont is the center of the Italian automotive sector and intends to continue to be so in the future. For this reason, events such as VTM, which mark from year to year greater participations of companies and success in terms of business opportunities created, shall continue to be organised and promoted by the institutions - the Regional Councillor for Internationalisation Fabrizio Ricca said -. The role to which we are called as Piedmont Region is also that of facilitators of the meeting between companies of the territory and companies that would like to come to operate in this territory,  as well as that of promoters of the Piedmontese excellence. I think that VTM demonstrates our willingness to ensure that the Region never gives up its mission connected to the automobile world.  On the contrary, jumping at the opportunity provided by the electric sector, Piedmont shall be ready to revive the challenge. This is crucial for the productive and employment fabric of Piedmont. "

The Regional Councillor for Productive Activities Andrea Tronzano focused on the fact that "the automotive industry remains a pillar for Piedmont, and for this reason we have set a policy that also pays attention to semiconductors, hydrogen and alternative energies, sectors that make the automotive industry even more important, for which we have allocated and will allocate the necessary resources to make this productive fabric increasingly solid". On the contrary, the Councillor for Innovation and Research Matteo Marnati said "in light of the great changes that are emerging on issues such as decarbonisation, sustainability, energy supply and mobility, the system of our companies and startups needs, more than ever, an action of support and promotion to grow and get strengthened in the innovation ecosystem".

“We are delighted to see the numbers in-person with us here in Torino today, and proud of the level of participation from international stakeholders and key players in the industry” said Abe CEO Stéphane Castet.

"VTM is a business convention of crucial importance to show the role of Piedmontese companies in the automotive and transport sector in global value chains, - said Dario Peirone, President of Ceipiemonte - It is a catalyst event of innovation of the highest level, which increases the degree of internationalisation of the Piedmontese economic system and is a vehicle for information and increased skills: it is part of Ceipiemonte's 2021/2023 strategic plan, shared with Partners, for the promotion of the territory and business development of the Piedmontese business system on international markets. It is precisely in this perspective that the signing of the agreement between Ceipiemonte and LIFTT also fits in: it will be a further instrument at the service of the territory, its entrepreneurial system and innovation".
