SoftKinetic partner Dynamixyz to provide high-quality facial capture

SoftKinetic and Dynamixyz reveal that they have joined together to provide 4-dimensional facial motion capture as part of Dynamixyz’ Performer solution. This new technology, using SoftKinetic’s DepthSense 325 3D camera, will capture subtle 3D facial gestures in real time for more nuanced and realistic computer animation, and will be demonstrated by Dynamixyz at Siggraph 2013 in Anaheim, California July 23-25 at booth #335.

The 4D facial motion capture will be released early next year as a part of Dynamixyz’ Performer Suite, an award-winning video-based facial capture and analysis solution that delivers unsurpassed raw animation, and unique real-time capability, with time-efficient annotation and highly accurate tracking. SoftKinetic will lend its DepthSense 325 camera to the solution, integrating through a lightweight, head-mounted camera safe for the eyes and capable of capturing gestures as close as 25 centimeters, at 60 frames-per-second (fps).

“The motion capture and visual effects (VFX) market is booming, and we are thrilled to be a part of Dynamixyz’ 4D technology that will enhance the facial motion capture workflow for motion pictures, gaming and real-time avatars,” said Eric Krzeslo, CMO of SoftKinetic. “SoftKinetic’s DepthSense Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology is ideal for this market space thanks to its flexibility and performance.”

“SoftKinetic is the perfect partner for our Performer software because unlike other sensors on the market, the DepthSense can work at very very close range without any threat for the eye, still delivering high quality data,” said Gaspard Breton, CEO of Dynamixyz. “It took a long time to our highly skilled R&D team to develop this new technology and we are so happy to be successful and on time to showcase it at Siggraph 2013”.

Dynamixyz ‘ 4D facial motion capture will be available this fall to trusted partners willing to join the Early Access Program, and the solution will officially be available in early 2014.
