Altera Corporation announced its Cyclone III LS FPGAs have received prominent recognition from editors in the electronics industry. Editors from EDN and Embedded Computing Design and OpenSystems Media honored Altera's innovation for its Cyclone III LS FPGAs offering low power consumption, high density with small form factor packages, and security features.
“Considering only the benefit of 200K logic elements for under 0.25 W, Cyclone III LS FPGAs hit a good power point—but adding anti-tamper and design-security features along with design-separation capability, makes this FPGA a unique power and space saver for designers of embedded systems,” said Don Dingee, editorial director, Embedded Computing Design and OpenSystems Media.

Altera's Cyclone III LS FPGAs target power- and board-space-sensitive applications in all market segments including military and industrial. The security features of these devices include a comprehensive information-assurance design suite that offers anti-tamper, design-security and design-separation capabilities to protect against reverse engineering, cloning, and enable redundancy in a single chip. Cyclone III LS FPGAs are optimized for low power to help manage thermal requirements, reduce or eliminate system-cooling costs, and extend battery life.

“Once we've answered our customers' low power needs, we made a considerable investment to meet their security needs,” said Vince Hu, vice president of product and corporate marketing at Altera. “By offering the right mix of logic, memory, and DSP density per board area, Altera's Cyclone III LS FPGAs are a clear example of how we've fulfilled the size, weight and power demands in all market segments with an added layer of IP protection.”
