Higher performance in artificial intelligence applications
Big demanding applications such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and bog data mining are driving CPU/GPU/ASIC (‘XPU’) processor operating currents to hundreds of Amperes. As these currents increase, the remaining short distance to the XPU, the ‘last inch’ in point-of-load power architectures, have become a limiting factor in XPU performance and total system efficiency.
Power-on-Package enables higher performance for AI processors
It has been announced that Vicor has introduced the Power-on-Package modular current multipliers for high performance, high current, CPU/GPU/ASIC (‘XPU’) processors. By freeing up XPU socket pins and eliminating losses associated with delivery of current from the motherboard to the XPU, Vicor’s Power-on-Package solution enables higher current delivery for maximum XPU performance.
Use circuit models to chart power device thermal parameters
Higher power levels are being handled in smaller spaces meaning that remaining losses are concentrated in the same small area or volume. Thermal considerations can be the critical path to a successful design, says Kim Mosley, Vicor
New parts help simplify designs and optimise SWaP-C attributes
Ruggedised modular DC/DC converters in a thermally adept, low profile (9.3 mm) VIA package, have been introduced by Vicor as the VIA DCM family and have a wide input voltage range specifications and isolated, regulated high efficiency outputs. The new DC/DC converter family, features enhanced functionality and performance, including EMI filtering, transient protection, inrush current limiting, as well as a secondary-referenced control interf...

The PI3526-00-LGIZ is the latest addition to the Cool-Power ZVS Buck Regulator Portfolio with a 48V (30-60Vin) input. The PI352x is a higher current offering to the existing PI354x portfolio enabling scalable power options for 48V Direct to Point of Load (PoL) applications. The PI3526-00-LGIZ is a 12V output regulator, supplying up to 18A, packaged in a 10x14mm LGA SiP package.
Webinar based on battery applications available on demand
The latest webinar available from Vicor, is presented by industry expert Travis Williams, and is available on demand. In the presentation he describes and explains how to develop better power systems for battery applications.
Buck regulator supports high load current applications
The latest addition to Vicor's cool-power ZVS buck regulator portfolio is the PI3525-00-LGIZ with a 48V (30-60Vin) input. The PI352x is a higher current offering to the existing PI354x portfolio enabling scalable power options for 48V Direct to Point of Load (PoL) applications. The PI3525-00-LGIZ is a 5V output regulator, supplying up to 20A, packaged in a 10x14mm LGA SiP package.
Vicor introduces two DCMs in a ChiP Package
The DCM in a ChiP package is an isolated, regulated DC/DC converter, operating from an unregulated, wide range input to generate an isolated DC output. With its high frequency zero-voltage switching (ZVS) topology, the DCM converter consistently delivers high efficiency across the input line range.
DCMs offer enhanced EMI filtering functionality
The DCM in a VIA Package is a ruggedised modular DC/DC converter that operates from an unregulated, wide range input, to generate an isolated and regulated high efficiency output, with what the company claims to be much higher power densities than competitive products.
Vicor introduces three DCMs in a VIA Package
The DCM in a VIA Package is a ruggedized modular DC/DC converter operating from an unregulated, wide range input, to generate an isolated and regulated high efficiency output with much higher power densities than competitive products. The new DCMs offer power system engineers a better brick with their enhanced functional integration by incorporating EMI filtering, transient protection, inrush current limiting, and a secondary-referenced control i...
CHiP DCMs generate an isolated DC output
The DCM in a ChiP package is an isolated, regulated DC/DC converter, operating from an unregulated, wide range input to generate an isolated DC output. With its high frequency Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) topology, the DCM converter consistently delivers high efficiency across the input line range.
Buck-boost regulators deliver up to 150W at 97% efficiency
Vicor has announced the addition of two buck-boost regulators to its Cool-Power ZVS Regulator portfolio. Delivering up to 150W at greater than 97% efficiency, these Cool-Power Regulators incorporate Vicor’s proprietary high frequency zero-voltage switching (ZVS) technology and feature best-in-class conversion efficiency, power density, and performance.
Vicor expands DCM family of DC/DC converters
Vicor has announced four additional DC/DC converters deployed in the rugged, chassis-mountable versions of its DCM isolated, regulated DC/DC converter family. This extends the family with two 28V nominal products (a 180W device with 5V output and a 320W device with 15V output) and two 270V nominal products (two 500W devices with 12V and 28V outputs) in VIA packages.
Ensuring engineers get a good night’s sleep
The power industry is changing, as complex and compact electronic products and systems have driven demand for ever smaller, more efficient and cost effective power systems. Vicor is reacting to these changes, and Electronic Specifier Editor Joe Bush spoke to the company’s VP, Global Sales & Marketing, Phil Davies, about its new direction and the benefits this offers to power system design engineers.
