Murata has expanded its OKD series of Digital PoL DC/DC converters by launching the 90A/162W OKDx-T/90 series from Murata Power Solutions. This is the highest current-rated product in the OKD series, which already provides solutions from 6-60A. The OKDx-T/90 series is suited for FPGA and processor applications.

Murata to exhibit cutting-edge tech at CeBIT 2017
Murata will exhibit at CeBIT, the world’s largest trade show for IT solutions from March 20-24 2017. The event, which will take place at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds, Hannover, Germany is expected to see 200,000 visitors through the doors. Booths from 3,300 companies from 70 countries will showcase business fields such as the Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing, and security.

Space-saving supercapacitor has world's lowest profile
Murata has introduced the DMH series which it claims to be the world's lowest profile supercapacitor. The product is designed for peak power assist duties in wearable applications and various other devices. Murata’s DMHA14R5V353M4ATA0 supercapacitor has a low profile design and at 0.4mm thick it is suitable for use in the thinnest devices. Its footprint is 20x20mm.

PoL converters provide advanced power conversion management
A module has been added to Murata Power Solutions' OKD family of digitally controlled Point of Load (PoL) DC/DC converters, the 60A, 95% efficient OKDL-T/60-W12. The OKDL-T/60 power module is suited for FPGA and processor applications. The module is specified to operate over a Vin range of 4.5-14VDC, and provides a user adjustable output in the range of 0.6-1.8VDC with an efficiency of 94.9%.

Starter kits speed design in RFIC circuits
Murata has released two passive starter kits that provide reference design support for Nordic Semiconductor RFICs. The kits are equipped with the passive components needed in the RF design associated with the Nordic chips for use in Bluetooth® low energy (BLE), ANT and 2.4 GHz ultra-low power wireless applications. The inclusion of all the passive components needed in one package greatly reduces the amount of time and effort required by designers to procure sample-use components.

World’s smallest-class high power density converters
Murata announced the MYMGK series of miniature “Mono Block” type surface mount point-of-load (PoL) DC/DC converters. These non-isolated “Mono Block” type converters are available in two models, a 6 Amp and a 20 Amp. Each version is available with two output voltage range options. Typical applications for these converters include powering FPGAs and CPUs used in data, telecommunications and networking communications equipment, and in equipment using distributed bus architecture.

Murata and IPDiA announced that Murata Electronics Europe B.V., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Murata is about to acquire IPDiA, a 3D silicon capacitor technology pioneer headquartered in France, and IPDiA will become a subsidiary of Murata. The transaction is expected to close before the end of October. This acquisition will enhance Murata's position as the leading provider of high reliability capacitors.

World's smallest 1µ­­­F MLCC measures 0.5x0.25x0.25mm
Murata has commenced mass production of what is believed to be the world’s smallest 1­­µF MLCC measuring EIA015008 (0.5x0.25x0.25mm) case size. Featuring X5R characteristics and rated with a 6.3VDC working voltage, the 015008 1µF capacitor aids high-density mounting on a PCB substrate because this MLCC cuts the component volume ratio by approximately half, achieving the world’s smallest component volume for an MLCC with the same characteristics.

Chip inductors exhibit 'world's highest' Q characteristics
Murata has revealed that it is mass-producing the LQP02HQ series of film-type high-frequency chip inductors in the ultra-compact 01005 size (0.4x0.2mm). The series is comprised of 57 models with inductance values that range from 0.4 to 22nH. Murata will be sparing no effort to further increase the inductance values of its future components while also developing even smaller components with high Q characteristics.

Electronics manufacturer Murata is working on a new project to offer an incentive for people to keep in shape and take advantage of the plethora of fitness trackers that are now available. Consumers can now earn ‘Bitwalking’ dollars where a phone application counts the number of steps an individual takes and converts it (around 10,000 steps = 1BW$), for the user to spend as they wish with retailers, sportswear brands etc.
