RIGOL’s RSA800 has been shortlisted for the Electronics Excellence Awards under the Test & Measurement category.

Intermittent radio-frequency problems can be difficult to reproduce in the laboratory. The RIGOL RSA800 Series lets engineers take real-time spectrum analysis to the equipment they need to investigate, using an instrument that weighs 1.9kg and operates from a compatible external USB-C Power Delivery power bank.

The series covers 5kHz to 4.5, 8.5, or 14GHz. Up to 40MHz real-time analysis bandwidth, a preamplifier and a tracking generator are standard. Real-time bandwidth is up to 40MHz above 100MHz and up to 20MHz at or below 100MHz. Published RIGOL European shop prices are €1,899 excluding VAT for the 4.5GHz RSA804 and €5,499 excluding VAT for the 14GHz RSA814.

Density displays show how frequently signals occur, spectrograms reveal changes over time, and frequency-mask triggering helps isolate intermittent events. These tools help engineers distinguish persistent signals from occasional bursts and investigate changes in the radio environment.

The tracking generator supports scalar measurements of filter response and cable loss, and can also operate as an independent signal source. Optional vector signal analysis adds constellation diagrams and modulation-quality measurements. Further options provide analogue demodulation, electromagnetic interference pre-compliance testing and phase-noise measurements.

A 7-inch touchscreen supports standalone operation. Browser control, LAN and USB connectivity support remote work, while Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI) enable automation. HDMI output makes measurements easier to share during reviews and teaching.

The practical benefit is continuity: the same instrument can support development at the bench, investigation at the installation site and explanation of the results to colleagues or students.
