Dukosi’s Battery Passport Secure Cell-to-Cloud Demonstrator with DKCMS and STSAFE-A120 has been shortlisted for the Electronics Excellence Awards under the Power category.

Developed by Dukosi in collaboration with STMicroelectronics, the proof-of-concept (PoC) represents a comprehensive solution that incorporates 16 cells, which is standard for battery module configurations appropriate for industrial equipment, battery energy storage, and xEV applications. The PoC combines the Dukosi Cell Monitoring System (DKCMS) with C-SynQ near-field communications protocol and ST’s MCU and STSAFE A120 Secure Element and demonstrates the potential of authenticated lifetime cell-to-cloud data and tamper-proof Battery Passport in building supply chain trust, improving repairability, and extending battery lifecycle through safer reuse and recycling.

Each of the 16 cells in the demonstration module incorporates a Dukosi DK8102 Cell Monitor, which stores cell identity and lifecycle information directly. It communicates cell data synchronously to the Dukosi System Hub using DKCMS’ near field connectivity and Dukosi C-SynQ communication protocol using a simple, single bus antenna, eliminating the common failure points present in wired battery designs. Within the Battery Management Unit (BMU), the System Hub connects via a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) to a STMicroelectronics STM32H533 microcontroller (MCU), which is paired with a STSAFE-A120 secure element for battery-pack authentication, data encryption and secure connectivity.

This unique battery architecture enables secure storage and cell-to-Cloud communication of Battery Passport, cell identity and usage data. The STSAFE-A120 protects the Battery Passport ID against unauthorised duplication, secures activity logs when exchanged using digital signatures, stores battery management system (BMS) credentials including certificates, and supports secure communication with Cloud services.
