Electronic Specifier has released the September 2026 edition of its magazine, and it is now available to read online.

This issue turns its editorial focus toward the events and engineering disciplines that connect design decisions on the bench to the wider industry conversation.

In her Editor’s note, Managing Editor Paige Hookway reflects on the value of trade shows as a counterpoint to the screen-based nature of editorial work, previewing Electronic Specifier’s presence this Autumn at two events central to its readership: Microelectronics UK and European Microwave Week.

“So much of my working week is spent looking at screens – transcripts, press releases, video calls,” said Hookway. “But somebody, somewhere, had to build the thing, test it, argue about it in a meeting, and decide it was ready to show the world. Trade shows are where I get to stand a little closer to that process.”

The regular Women in Tech column spotlights Head of Product at the Micro:bit Educational Foundation, Lucy Gill who spends her days thinking of ways of turning a small circuit board into a global tool for inclusion. Her breadth of industry knowledge means that she understands why diversity in engineering isn’t just a nice-to-have but is an essential part of creating, growing, and thriving.

Beyond this, the September issue delivers a broad sweep of technical and industry content across the sectors Electronic Specifier covers:

  • Industrial Networking: hardening the factory floor against the demands of connected industrial environments
  • Obsolescence: the regular column examining how engineering teams manage component lifecycle risk
  • Aerospace & Defence – RF: design challenges in building wideband RF front ends for electronic warfare applications
  • Test & Measurement – Signal Path: why early attention to signal path design is critical for production test outcomes
  • Test & Measurement – Aerospace: the electronics underpinning mission-critical aerospace systems
  • Aerospace & Defence – EMI: how integrated EMI filtering is advancing Europe’s defence electronics systems
  • Power – Timing: timing’s evolution from a background component to a core piece of system architecture
  • Power – Noise: approaches to minimising acoustic noise in healthcare equipment design

“Every issue is a snapshot of where the industry’s attention is at that moment,” Hookway added. “This month that’s RF front ends for electronic warfare, EMI filtering for defence systems, and the quieter but no less important work of getting timing and noise right in power design. It’s a genuine cross-section of what our readers are grappling with.”
