For further space and cost savings, the MAX17803 eliminates the need for external Schottky diodes, as well as an external boost diode. This small step-down regulator is ideal for ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs), netbooks, portable gaming devices, and other low-power, compact applications.
The MAX17803 uses a current-mode, fixed-frequency control scheme to provide an easy-to-implement architecture that does not sacrifice transient response. This architecture also provides peak-current-limit protection and operates in pulse-skipping mode to maintain high efficiency under light-load conditions.
This step-down regulator produces an adjustable 0.75V to 2.7V output voltage from the system’s 3.3V or 5V input supply. It is available in a space-saving, 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin TQFN package, and is fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range. Prices start at $2.75 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit with recommended external components is available to reduce design time.
