MOSFETs offer a 50% reduction in turn-off losses
Infineon Technologies has launched a new family of CoolMOS C7 series superjunction MOSFETs. The 600V series offers a 50% reduction in turn-off losses compared to the CoolMOS CP, offering a GaN-like level of performance in PFC, TTF and other hard-switching topologies.
MOSFETs manufactured on 300mm thin wafers are world's first
Infineon Technologies is the first company in the world to manufacture automotive power MOSFETs on 300mm thin wafers. The OptiMOS 5 family of power semiconductors, optimised for CO2 reduction applications, is the first group of products to be released on the thin-wafer technology.
AC/DC front-end module offers high power density
Achieving a power density of 8W/cm³ (127W/in³), Vicor has introduced its high density, low profile, integrated VIA PFM AC/DC front-end power modules. VIA PFM AC/DC front-end converter modules supply an isolated, PFC regulated 24 or 48V SELV DC output at up to 400W from the universal input range of 85 to 264VAC with 93% peak efficiency.
1200V gate-driver core eliminates opto-couplers
A dual-channel gate-driver core for 90kW to 500kW inverters and converters has been introduced by Power Integrations. Leveraging SCALE-2+ integrated circuit and isolated transformer technology for DC/DC power and switching signal transmission, the 2SC0115T2A0-12 driver core improves system reliability and performance by eliminating the need for an opto-coupler.
Simplify digital power conversion
A digital-controller family which helps designers maximise the advantages of digital power conversion, including high efficiency under all load conditions, enhanced safety, rich diagnostics, and convenient network connectivity, has been released by STMicroelectronics.
Gate drive transformers use insulation wire on all windings
Pulse Electronics has expanded its P0584/85NL high isolation gate drive transformer line with a series that uses insulation wire on all windings, making them compliant to safety standards such as IEC61558 and IEC60601 for reinforced isolation.
Hidden healthcare savings
Using a REOMED medical isolation transformer is a cheap and easy way to protect patients and use less energy. Despite the many cost saving measures introduced over the last decade, healthcare providers are still some of the most energy intensive users of electricity in the UK. The NHS, for example, spends on average over £750m annually, spread over 2,300 hospitals, 10,500 general practices, as well as numerous additional trusts.
Wall-mounted adaptors offer 0.075-0.15W no-load consumption
Mean Well is pleased to unveil its SGA40 (U/E type) and SGA60 (U/E type) 40 and 60W wall-mounted green adaptors, which comply with EISA 2007/DoE Level VI international energy efficiency regulations. The adaptors feature ultra-low no-load power consumption from 0.075 to 0.15W and working efficiency up to 91%, offering energy savings and carbon footprint reduction in no-load or operating mode.
Free UPS course for graduates and new engineers
Uninterruptible Power Supplies Limited, a Kohler company, has announced the first dates for its CPD certified training course, designed to help graduates and newly qualified electrical engineers understand modern UPS technology and the necessary considerations for specifying a power protection system for mission critical applications.
Rogowski current probes target next-gen power semiconductors
From Hall 7, Stand 122 at PCIM, Power Electronic Measurements will be showing its full range of Rogowski technology based wide-bandwidth current probes. These include the CWT Ultra-mini with a 1.7mm thick coil small enough to fit between the legs of a TO-220 device, the CWT with coil lengths from 300mm to over 1m for measuring currents in applications as diverse as lightning strikes to leakage currents in machine shafts.
