The world’s lowest-power energy harvesting PMICs
A family of energy harvesting PMICs that enable tiny, solar-powered wireless sensors for IoT applications has been introduced by Cypress Semiconductor. The new devices are claimed to be the world’s lowest-power, single-chip energy harvesting PMICs, and can be used with solar cells as small as 1cm2.
Zero-drift, low-noise op amp includes on-chip EMI filtering
Analog Devices has introduced the first model in a series of high-voltage, low-noise, zero-drift, precision operational amplifiers that reduce system noise, cost, board space, and development time by providing on-chip EMI filtering and eliminating the need for calibration circuitry. The dual-channel ADA4522-2 op amp operates within a supply voltage range of 4.5-55V and exhibits noise performance that is at least 35% better than its closest c...
FPGAs withstand differential power analysis attacks
Microsemi has announced that its SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs and IGLOO2 FPGAs have passed certification for resistance to Differential Power Analysis (DPA) in the DPA Countermeasure Validation Programme developed by Rambus Cryptography. This allows Microsemi to use the Cryptography Research trademarked “DPA Lock” security logo under license from the organisation in connection with these products.
1.5A, 15V sync boost regulator offers 95% efficiency
Linear Technology Corporation has announced the LTC3121, a 3MHz current mode, synchronous boost DC/DC converter with integrated output disconnect. Its internal 1.5A switches deliver output voltages as high as 15V from an input voltage range of 1.8V at start-up (0.5V when running) to 5.5V, making it suitable for battery or standard 3.3V and 5V power sources.
Battery charger and power analysis packed into one tool
A new 10-slot battery charger from VOLTCRAFT has been introduced by distributor Conrad Business Supplies. Added to the in-house designed range of power devices, power supplies and accessories is the Charge Manager 2024 which blends the role of battery charger and power analysis tool and features a graphical display to show the charging status of batteries and ensure their optimised use.
Battery forum to discuss Li-ion potential, optimisation & safety
At the 9th Developer Forum Battery Technologies, taking place 3rd to 4th November 2015 at Lindner Park-Hotel Hagenbeck in Hamburg, Germany and organised by Batteryuniversity, participants will acquire information about the latest trends and development potential in the area of lithium-ion batteries, possibilities for optimal utilisation of their capacity and determining the 'state of health', strategies for maximising safety with statio...
600W power modules offer outputs of 160, 320 or 650VDC
TDK Corporation announces the introduction of 600W output power models to the TDK-Lambda Z+ series of high voltage programmable DC power supplies, completing an extensive product development project. As with the 200, 400 and 800W models, these 600W models are offered with output voltages of up to 160, 320 or 650VDC and carry a five-year warranty.
Protect your site from the effects of poor power quality
Powerstar has launched a Power Quality Service that enables companies to protect their site from the effects of poor power quality issues. The service will deliver a power quality audit to identify problems, suggest solutions and commission the installation of effective equipment to rectify any issues identified.
Solid-state electrolyte could lead to the "perfect" battery
If you pry open one of today’s ubiquitous high-tech devices - whether a cellphone, a laptop, or an electric car - you’ll find that batteries take up most of the space inside. Indeed, the recent evolution of batteries has made it possible to pack ample power in small places. But people still always want their devices to last even longer, or go further on a charge, so researchers work night and day to boost the power a given size b...
50W power supplies target heavy-duty industrial applications
The MIW-50-D0-IP66 series of compact, 50W power supplies are designed for applications that require a low power, rugged waterproof, dust-proof, explosion-proof AC/DC or DC/DC power solution. The units operate across a full universal input range of 90V to 264VAC and provide a single output of 5, 12, 24, 36, 48, 72, 130VDC or custom. The series also offers dc-inputs of 250VDC (210-290V), 300VDC (250-350V) or custom.
