Amtek's revenue meter quantifies power quality on electric grids
The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has completed a performance assessment of the JEMStar II revenue meter from AMETEK Power Instruments.
240W 2x 4” power supplies certified for medical use
A new family of 2x4” 240W medical grade power supplies has been launched by N2Power. The XLM240 family has three variants; open frame, U chassis and a fully enclosed unit including a fan. These units provide up to 94% efficiency and their design reduces energy consumption and requires little forced air cooling, resulting in greater economy.
Battery Experts Forum expected to welcome 1,200 participants
Setting a new participation record, 1,200 attendees are expected to attend the Battery Experts Forum in Aschaffenburg City Hall which takes place from 27th February until 1st March 2018. The forum has developed into one of the largest events in Europe for battery manufacturers, their suppliers, researchers, developers, and users. Over 60 experts, developers, and researchers will report on the hottest trends in lithium-ion battery technologie...
Electric eel inspires source to power medical implants
Researchers at the University of Fribourg’s Adolphe Merkle Institute, the University of Michigan, and the University of California San Diego, have developed a power source inspired by the electric eel. In a study published by the scientific journal Nature, they have demonstrated a method that suggests that self-powered batteries for biological applications such as pacemakers may one day become a reality.
Product portfolio expanded with energy-harvesting components
Fujitsu Electronics Europe (FEEU) is expanding its ultra low power linecard portfolio to include products from the Belgian manufacturer e-peas. Based on years of research, e-peas has developed energy-harvesting solutions with technical parameters. The offered components support a wide range of energy sources such as photovoltaic, thermal, vibration or RF. With the new partnership, FEEU seeks to strategically extend its portfolio and to create new...
TVS diodes feature 2% breakdown voltage tolerance
The entire Vishay Semiconductors VTVS Series of 400W TransZorb Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) Diodes, from VTVS5V0ASMF to VTVS63GSMF, in the SMF Package is available at New Yorker Electronics. With their low 1mm profile, low-noise technology, and very fast response times, the devices are ideal for line transient voltage protection in space-constrained electronics.
TI Precision Labs - ADCs: AC/DC specifications
This video is part of the TI Precision Labs series - ADCs curriculum. It describes offset error, gain error, CMRR, PSRR, SNR, and THD.
Let's power additive manufacturing together!
A new line of AC/DC power supply units has been announced by Ideal Power. The power supply units are well suited to three dimensional print applications. The 30WLC550 series is suitable for machines operating from 12-58VDC and up to 550W (forced air cooled). Equipped with a fan output connector to achieve optimal performance, together with hiccup mode overcurrent, overvoltage and short circuit protection.
Lithium-ion batteries can be charged 5 times faster
Researchers at WMG at the University of Warwick have developed a new direct, precise test of Lithium-ion batteries’ internal temperatures and their electrodes potentials and found that the batteries can be safely charged up to five times faster than the current recommended charging limits. The new technology works in-situ during a battery’s normal operation without impeding its performance and it has been tested on standard commercial...
Keeping the railway network DC immune
Being long term contractors to Southern Rail/GTR, K H Engineering Services often find themselves in frequent need to deal with protection of mains power equipment within areas of high DC power usage. This specialist protection is required for all electrical mains supplies likely to be used by the public – such as socket outlets, ticket machines, hand driers, water heaters and more recently electric vehicle charging points to BS 7671 in...
