Available in the tiny USP-6C package (1.8 x 2.0 x 0.6mm), as well as in standard SOT-25 and SOT-89-5 versions, the XC6220 Series of voltage regulators from Torex Semiconductor offer exceptionally low dropout voltage – typically 20mV with a 100mA load. These high current, ultra-low dropout voltage regulators provide a highly stable, low noise supply that meets the demands of battery-driven circuits such as those found in disk drives, digital and video cameras and portable AV equipment.
The XC6220 Series consists of a voltage reference, an error amplifier, a current limiter, an inrush current prevention circuit and a phase compensation circuit plus a driver transistor and, with Torex’s innovative GreenOperation (GO) function, battery life can be extended greatly.

With this GO function, the XC6220 LDO automatically switches from high speed (HS) mode, where power consumption is typically 50µA, to power save(PS) mode, just 8µA, when load current is small (2mA or less). The device quickly returns to high speed mode once again as the load current demand reaches 5mA and above.

Output voltage can be factory set anywhere from 0.8V to 5.0V in 50mV steps, and the operating voltage range is from 1.6V to 6.0V. The LDO is also compatible with low ESR ceramic capacitors, which give added output stability.

An over current protection circuit and a thermal shutdown circuit are built in. The over current protection circuit will operate when the output current reaches its limit current. When the junction temperature reaches its limit temperature (150°C), the thermal shutdown circuit takes control, it then releases at 125°C.

The CE (chip enable) function enables design engineers to turn off the output, putting the device into standby mode, thereby greatly reducing power consumption. In addition, for the XC6220B/D versions, the electric charge at the CL capacitor is discharged via the internal auto-discharge switch, ensuring that the VOUT pin drops down to ground quickly.
