Vishay Intertechnology has released a compact new double-diode ESD-protection array designed to protect dual high-speed USB ports or up to two other high-frequency signal lines against transient voltage signals.
The VBUS052BD-HTF is packaged in the leadless LLP75, with a 1.6-mm by 1.6-mm footprint and an ultra-low profile of 0.6mm. This tiny package, which uses an environmentally friendly 'green' molding compound, minimizes the board space required for active ESD protection in a wide range of portable electronics. Typical applications will include portable and handheld computing, communications, industrial, and medical systems.

The new device features a low capacitance of 1.5pF typical per diode and a low maximum leakage current of <0.1μA at the working voltage of 5V. The array offers a breakthrough voltage of typical 7.9V (at 1mA), and a maximum clamping voltage of 16V at 3A.

The bus port-protection array provides transient protection for one data line as per IEC 61000 4 2 (ESD) at ±15kV (contact and air discharge) and offers a high surge current >3A in accordance with IEC 61000 4 5. It is also compliant with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC.

Samples and production quantities of the new VBUS052BD-HTF double-diode ESD bus port-protection array in the compact LLP75 package are available now, with lead times of 10 weeks for large orders.
