High precision flat mirrors

Working in a thermally stable production environment – the experienced optical engineers at Optical Surfaces can regularly achieve surface accuracies of better than ʎ/20 peak to valley on flats up to 750mm in diameter.

Achieving high surface accuracy, top surface quality (10/5), and typical microroughness of less than 1.0nm RMS on flat mirror substrates decreases the amount of light lost through dispersion.

Flat Mirrors from Optical Surfaces are often manufactured in highly stable optical materials such as Zerodur and ClearCeram-Z. The most common coating on flat mirrors is aluminium which offers good reflectivity in the UV, visible and mid-infrared spectral wavebands. Protected silver coatings provide the highest reflectivity for flat mirrors operating in the visible and protected gold is the most efficient coating for infrared applications. For high power laser applications, a multilayer dielectric coating can be applied directly to the substrate surface.

All optical flats and flat mirrors from Optical Surfaces come with full quality testing assurance. Optics up to 600mm diameter are provided with a Fizeau interferometric test report, larger flats are quality assured using the Ritchey-Common test procedure.
