Renesas Technology Europe and Hitex Development Tools have announced the launch of the compact low power RTOS Evaluator. Based on a low power H8S/2472F microcontroller, it allows the evaluation of several real time operating systems, TCP/IP stacks, USB stacks and FLASH file systems. Accompanying the evaluation platform is a DVD that includes software contributions from CMX, Euros, FreeRTOS, HCC- embedded, Micrium, Segger, Sevenstax, Thesycon.
By using the supplied Evaluator GUI PC application, designers can select their choice of RTOS and stacks and then download them to the platform using the convenient USB interface. In this way, different RTOS’ can be fully tested using the same H8S/2472F hardware environment without the complication of changing the hardware test set-up or application.

The small form factor, the ease of configuration combined with the software from several contributing companies makes the RTOS Evaluator an extremely powerful and uncomplicated evaluation tool., says Dr Kurt Böhringer, Head of Technology & Innovation at Hitex Development Tools GmbH.

”For deeply embedded applications with limited resources, it is often difficult to fully evaluate an RTOS and the required stacks. Now, with the innovative RTOS Evaluator platform such testing and evaluation becomes straightforward” says Guenter Plechinger, product marketing engineer Renesas Technologies Europe.

The H8S/2472F low power microcontroller features a 512KB Flash module and 40KB RAM combined with good communication resources such as Ethernet, USB, synchronous serial communication unit and SCI. In addition an LPC bus and several I2C bus interfaces and flexible timer blocks are provided based around a 16/32bit CISC CPU.
