The balance of power
Implementing innovative memory solutions may help add stability to the power/performance balancing act developers must not endure when selecting a new MCU. Philip Ling, ES Design magazine Editor, explores the issues further in this article.
Seven steps to SCM selection
Version management, or Software Configuration Management (SCM) systems have become an integral part of the embedded software development process, as they help keep (distributed) teams and vast amounts of information on track in the face of tight deadlines. By Mark Warren, European Marketing Director at Perforce Software.
Connectivity drives revision
A recent spate of revised 32bit microcontrollers hints at the increasing importance of connectivity, but at the cost of ultra-low power. ES Design magazine Editor, Philip Ling reports.
First USB 3.1 platform-to-platform Host-Device IP data transfer achieved
The industry's first SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps (USB 3.1) platform-to-platform Host-Device IP data transfer has been achieved by Synopsys. The IP realized 10 Gbps USB 3.1 effective data rates of more than 900 MBps between two Synopsys HAPS-70 FPGA-based prototyping systems while using backward-compatible USB connectors, cables and software.
Leti-UTSOI2 available in all major SPICE simulators
Leti-UTSOI2, the first complete compact model that enlarges the physically described bias range for designers, is now available in all major SPICE simulators. Accounting for back interface inversion in ultra-thin body & box (UTBB) transistors, the updated model maintains a formal symmetry between front and back interface in all equations of the core model.
Synopsys enables first-pass silicon success
Abilis Systems has achieved first-pass silicon success with its TB100 8-channel broadcast-to-IP secure media processor for the digital TV consumer market. Abilis achieved this success using a broad set of Synopsys design solutions including DesignWare ARC Processors, Interface IP, Embedded Memories with integrated test and repair, Lynx Design System and Professional Services.
KickStart Kit for low-power Renesas RX111 MCUs
Expanding its support for the low-power RX111 microcontrollers from Renesas, IAR Systems has unveiled the IAR KickStart Kit for RX111. Based on the Renesas Promotion Board, the KickStart Kit can be used to evaluate the tools and the microcontroller, and also to design, develop, integrate and test applications.
Taking guess work out of identifying backplane profiles
Two new interactive charts which take the guess work out of identifying the OpenVPX backplane profile for new VPX designs has been announced by Elma Bustronic. Available with either Elma’s 3U or 6U backplanes, the new VPX resources provide a snapshot of the profiles in an easy-to-read document.
Altium Vault Server Version 1.2 & new TC2 unveiled
The new Altium Vault Server Version 1.2 and all new product Team Configuration Center (TC2) has been released by Altium. The Altium Vault manages native electronic design data, including its revision history, life-cycle state and supply chain information whilst hosted on an organization's own network infrastructure.
FT121 G-Sensor shield focusses on Arduino-based gaming
Adding to its range of hardware solutions for those working with the Arduino open-source electronics development platform, FTDI Chip has announced the FT121 G-Sensor shield. Focussing on the implementation of Arduino-based gaming systems, the FT121 G-Sensor shield enables such projects to be conceived and subsequently executed simply and rapidly through its USB human interface device (HID) class support.
