Kit includes wire-to-board and board-to-board connectors - Now available from TTI, Inc., the global distributor of passive, interconnect, relay & switch and discrete components, is a new sample kit of connectors from AVX for Solid State Lighting (SSL) applications. The kit includes series 9175, 9176, 9177 and 9276 wire-to-board connectors as well as series 9159 board-to-board devices. It is ideal for design engineers wanting to evaluate AVX’s connector solutions for SSL applications in their challenge to find the best suited connector for their PCB designs.
The 917X series of surface mount Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDC) from AVX has been developed for connecting individual wires ranging from 14 AWG to 28 AWG directly to a PCB. The industry proven contact system has been tested to automotive levels of shock, vibration, and temperature cycling to prove its reliability and robustness. The simplicity of inserting a wire into the connector with a small tool allows a wide range of devices to be connected to the PCB without soldering. In SSL applications specifically, these connectors are used to bring power and signal onto the PCB or are used to daisy chain multiple boards together in a long string. 9175 series connectors are available as 2-and 3-way IDC connectors. The parts are both low-profile (3.45mm) with a small PCB footprint (2 way: 5.0x2.5mm, 3 way: 7.5x2.5mm) and allow for quick, easy assembly thanks to a dedicated single-wire insertion hand tool. The components offer a current rating of 1A continuous through all contacts at 25degC (ambient), with a voltage rating of 125V, delivering a minimum insulation resistance of 100MΩ, and a maximum termination resistance of 20mΩ. 9176 series devices accept 18 AWG to 24 AWG wires with an insulation diameter ranging from 1.1mm to 2.1mm. These dual contact connectors support a 10 amp current rating with two large SMT solder tails per wire to provide maximum stability on the PCB. Available in 1p-3p configuration, these connectors can be end stackable for higher pin counts. 9177 series parts handle up to 15A and are rated for use at up to 650V, suiting them for use in high voltage inverters in the lighting industry. Available as a single contact version for separate power handling or 2 and 3 way configurations, 9177 series connectors offer the user flexibility of placement on the PCB for single or multiple wires. The devices are end-stackable for larger pin counts, providing flexibility.

9276 series connectors from AVX provide a quick and reliable wire-to-board termination in a sleek 2.5mm pitch SMT package. With almost every product on the market today having to deal with a small number of discrete wires to connect components to a board, 9276 series connectors meet this challenge by simply stripping the wire and inserting them into the connector. This makes the connector very termination friendly within the factory as well as in the field by electrical installers. Developed for Solid State Lighting (SSL) applications, the connector was designed with a high spring force Beryllium Copper upper spring contact to accept a wide range (18-24 AWG solid or stranded) of wire to meet multiple applications with a single connector. By incorporating a dual-contact design, the maximize current rating (6 Amps) was maximized and the PCB space was minimized. The dual-contact design also provides two solder points for each wire eliminating the need for external anchor tabs.

9159 series connectors from AVX provide design flexibility by offering both card edge (one-piece) and plug-and-socket (two-piece) interconnect options. The connectors feature a small footprint, making them ideal for applications where multiple PCBs need to be plugged together, such as LED lighting strips. The double-ended card edge version provides a simple and direct connection to both ends of a standard PCB with tin plated pads in 2, 3, 4 and 5 positions. The two-piece connector version is surface mounted on one side of the PCB, which allows the LEDs to be placed on the other side to maintain consistent spacing. 9159 series connectors provide simple, yet reliable termination of PCBs. Both versions of the 9159 series connectors are rated in current at 3A and benefit from a wide operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C.
