Tiny TI power circuit simplifies USB battery charger design
TI has introduced today the industry’s smallest 1.1-A Li-Ion linear battery charger with integrated 50-mA low-dropout regulator to support mobile phones and other handheld electronics. The new bq25040 comes in a small 2 mm x 3 mm package, and can regulate voltage within one-percent accuracy from a USB port or AC adapter. The device’s integrated LDO allows a mobile application to power up instantly from an external power source, even w...
Fujitsu Expands Lineup of Low Pin Count 8-bit Microcontrollers for Consumer Appliances
Fujitsu Microelectronics has expanded its line-up of low pin count microcontrollers with three new series in its F2MC-8FX family of high-performance 8-bit microcontrollers featuring 8, 16, and 20 pins. The MB95260H, MB95270H and MB95280H series contain embedded dual-operation flash memory and support E2PROM emulation, which allows a reduction in system cost, as E2PROM does not need to be connected to the microcontroller.
Murata enhances performance of EMIFIL chip ferrite beads
Murata has enhanced the performance of its high performance EMIFIL chip ferrite beads to help designers save power and space in portable equipment designs. New ceramic materials and process technologies have allowed Murata to lower the DC resistance of its chip ferrite beads by up to 60%, increasing rated current to create the BLM15AX_SN series.
Tyco Electronics adds glow-wire compatibility in VAL-U-LOK connector line
The VAL-U-LOK connector family from Tyco Electronics now includes housings that meet the requirements of IEC 60335-1 for glow-wire ignition temperature and glow-wire flammability index. IEC 60335-1 addresses safety requirements in household appliances. While the standard applies primarily to appliances sold in Europe, demand for glow-wire-compatible housing is growing worldwide as manufacturers look to meet global market requirements.
NI Extends Design and Prototyping Platform for Hands-On Learning
National Instruments has introduced the NI Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite (NI ELVIS) II+ design and prototyping platform, a single, integrated system that is ideal for the lab or classroom because it connects theory to real-world applications. The latest addition to the NI ELVIS family incorporates an onboard, 100 MS/s oscilloscope and features a series of new add-on boards to extend the platform beyond instrumentation and c...
NEC Electronics' new 78K Primer Kit
NEC Electronics has announced the release of the 78K Primer Kit. This learning tool introduces NEC Electronics’ industry-leading 78K microcontroller family and is designed to help and educate newcomers to get started quickly and easily both with 78K0 8-bit and the 78K0R 16-bit microcontrollers. The 78K Primer Kit is designed for engineers and students who are not yet familiar with NEC Electronics’ 78K microcontrollers. The kit holds hardware ...
ZnO Based Transient Voltage Suppressor Series from AVX
AVX has developed a Zinc Oxide based varistor series that exhibits a low leakage current of 2µA maximum. Designated the UltraGuard Series, the multilayer ceramic varistors feature non-linear, bi-directional voltage-current characteristics similar to back-to-back zener diodes and an EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) capacitor in parallel.
