Providing a fixed output of 5V (±2%), two high voltage linear regulators have been announced by Diodes Incorporated. Featuring a high drive capability of 50mA, the ZXTR1005K4 and ZXTR1005PD8 regulators are suitable for 48V DC power systems in applications such as telecom, networking and Power-over-Ethernet equipment.

The ZXTR1005 regulators provide a cost effective alternative for high voltage regulation tasks, where industry standard linear regulators can't be used. It also offers a significant improvement in supply reliability. Microcontrollers can be powered from 48V telecom rails thanks to the regulated 5V output, while the devices' 10-100V voltage input can handle any transient conditions.

Operating over a temperature range from -40 to +125°C, the ZXTR1005K4 and ZXTR1005PD8 integrate several components into TO252-4 and PowerDI5060-8 packages, respectively. These packages both minimise the required PCB area and reduce the number of external components when compared with a multi-chip discrete solution.

The linear regulators feature high performance line and load regulation capabilities which ensure that transient voltage drops do not result in latch-up. This safeguards continuous operation of the voltage supply. The ZXTR1005K4 and ZXTR1005PD8 include active high enable pins, allowing the output to be toggled on and off. This simplifies regulator control and aids diagnostics.

The RoHS compliant, lead free, halogen free and antimony free ZXTR1005K4 (TO252-4) and ZXTR1005PD8 (PowerDI5060-8) high voltage linear regulators from Diodes Incorporated are available now priced at $0.30 (USD) each in 10,000 unit quantities.
