At embedded world 2026, Mick Elliot interviews David Connolly, Product Management Director from Taoglas.

At the show Taoglas showcased its latest digital innovation designed to simplify and accelerate antenna selection: the AI antenna recommendation engine. Presented as part of the company’s broader Antenna Expert Suite, the tool was positioned as a major step forward for both experienced RF engineers and those with little or no antenna design background.

David Connolly explained that the AI recommendation engine had been developed to remove much of the complexity traditionally associated with antenna selection. Rather than manually searching through extensive portfolios or engaging in lengthy consultations, users could interact with the tool in a conversational, chat-style format. Trained on decades of Taoglas’ internal project knowledge and customer data, the system acted like a virtual antenna specialist available around the clock.

The selection process began with basic criteria such as mounting type, technology, and application. If insufficient information was provided, the AI asked follow‑up questions, gathering details on factors such as number of connections, connector types, cable lengths, and industry-specific requirements, including transportation use cases. Based on the responses, it generated a shortlist of the most suitable antenna solutions, often highlighting a best-fit option alongside viable alternatives.

Visitors were shown how results could be compared instantly through side-by-side tables, with direct access to datasheets and product pages. Once a selection was made, users could configure cables or connectors and benefit from rapid shipping options.

For PCB-based designs, the Antenna Integrator tool allowed designers to simulate antenna performance within their device and receive a compiled report within 24 hours.

Connolly noted that the AI tool addressed a common pain point, which is that Taoglas’ extensive portfolio could be overwhelming. By cutting selection times from days to seconds, the solution significantly streamlined development workflows.

Already live on the Taoglas website during the show, the tool had attracted hundreds of daily users and strong early feedback, with plans to extend access through distribution channels in future.
