The MicroRWD MFIC module from RF Solutions is a complete reader and transponder acceptance solution for the company’s 13.56 MHz Mifare (1k and 4k byte versions), Mifare Ultralight cards and I.CODE SLI smart labels.

The MicroRWD MFIC is a proximity system that can achieve a read/write range of up to 10cm using the appropriate antenna. The module can acquire the single and double UIDs (serial numbers) and perform read/write operations to DESFire, Mifare ProX, SmartMX and other ISO14443A card types.

The solution is housed in a 24 pin DIL package and only needs a connected antenna and 5V DC supply to be a fully featured ISO14443A Mifare and ISO15693 I.CODE SLI read/write system. The module also has internal EEPROM memory for holding authentication keys, lists of authorised serial numbers and LED drives to give visual indication of acceptance. In addition, auxiliary outputs are provided for customised interfaces and for control purposes such as driving relays.

The read/write device also has a TTL level RS232 interface that allows a host system to communicate with it, allowing system features to be customised, configurations changed and transponder read/write data to be handled by the host system. The MicroRWD MFIC module is pin compatible and host command compatible with RF Solutions’ family of 125kHz family of MicroRWD (Hitag and EM) modules to allow easy migration between the different technologies.

In addition to Mifare technology being ideally suited to e-purse uses, each card has a unique serial number at the beginning of its memory that makes the technology suitable for almost any application requiring large and secure read/write memory tasks. Typical applications include: access control, automatic fare collection, bus/train/airline ticketing, electronic purse, vending, loyalty/membership schemes, ID cards, time and attendance, asset tracking, gambling, electronic keys, logistics, road tolling, payphones, park and ride schemes and pre-paid metering.
