Professional Software Associates, Inc. released the initial version of the Stream Media Player for Android phones. The player is available for free download from the Android Market. The player provides functionality to stream video using the RTP/RTSP protocol. During the first days following the release the player was downloaded by thousands of users.

The Stream Media Player has the ability to playback videos and audio sources from memory or a storage card. The Stream Media Player extends the Android phone functionally by adding streaming capabilities which gives a user the ability to watch Internet TV, view web cameras, and listen to Internet Radio.

The initial version of the Stream Media Player supports JPEG web cameras, Motion JPEG streaming video, and H.264 RTSP stream widely supported by mobile devices. The application supports portrait and landscape screen modes. Using additional tools such as the free cross-platform VLC Media Player on a desktop computer together with the Stream Media Player, a user can organize video broadcasting of a web camera or shared video content and view it on an Android phone.
