Cognovo demonstrates SDM Development Platform at MWC for soft modem validation and IOT

Cognovo announces the availability of its SDM Development Platform for integration, validation and interoperability testing of software defined modems created using the Cognovo software development kit. Cognovo's LTE soft modem will be on demonstration at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona by appointment.

Once Layer 1 control and data (PHY) processing has been integrated and validated against reference tests vectors using the Cognovo Software Development Kit, developers can move immediately to protocol stack integration and conformance testing with the R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester from Rohde & Schwarz.

The Software Defined Modem from Cognovo can support many cellular and other wireless interfaces without the addition of specific ASIC hardware, being configured only by software. It is dimensioned to support all standards up to LTE.

Cognovo's LTE soft modem demonstration at this year's Mobile World Congress features the SDM Development Platform running an LTE downlink, integrated with the 4M Wireless LTE protocol stack and tested against the R&S CMW500. The combination of Cognovo's depth of real-time trace with the CMW500's breadth of test capability enables rapid and full IOT and conformance testing.

After we spun the company out of ARM we focused on completion of the Modem Compute Engine and associated modem development tools. Now that we are delivering these to customers and partners our focus is on supporting customers' design flow and validation, said Gordon Aspin, CEO at Cognovo. One of the key benefits of the SDM approach is that the modem can be completely developed and validated before silicon has even taped out and this is what the SDM Development Platform enables.

Cognovo's SDM-DP features a Modem Compute Engine (MCE) with external I/O for debug, trace and test peer connectivity. The MCE implementation is functionally equivalent and cycle accurate to the customers' own target silicon and enables both real time and non-real time operation to the R&S CMW500.
