Avago Extends Its 850 nm VCSEL Technology to 10 Gb/s

Avago Technologies today announces the completion of full Telcordia GR-468-CORE qualification of its next-generation 850 nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL). These VCSELs are currently in volume production for use in its higher speed fiber optic products. The company is a leading supplier of innovative semiconductor solutions for advanced communications, industrial and commercial applications. III-V technologies such as VCSELs play a key role in assuring supply, reliability and high quality in fiber optic product manufacturing. Products including 10 Gb/s Ethernet and 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel transceivers and 6.25 Gb/s Parallel Optics transmitters based on Avago's next-generation VCSELs are sampling now with commercial release scheduled for later this year.
By providing its own 10 Gb/s VCSEL source, Avago is well-positioned to continue its leadership position in the communications and storage industry. According to Tim Gallagher, Avago's vice president of III-V, Our 10 Gb VCSEL technology has been proven for extended temperature ranges to support demanding customer applications and enable denser systems. Avago has industry leading R&D capabilities in several III-V technologies, including VCSELs, FP lasers, DFB laser and uncooled EML lasers.
