ReVerb Networks has announced it will build its new line of digital integrated antenna arrays using Axis Network Technology’s WiMAX and LTE Multiple Input Multiple Output – MIMO – digital and RF platform.
Under the terms of the agreement, AxisNT will provide ReVerb with several platforms for UMTS/HSPA, LTE and WiMAX, consisting of multiple transmitter and receiver radios, to be used in ReVerb’s line of digital integrated antenna array products. ReVerb will integrate the AxisNT platforms with the company’s patented BeamMakerTM digital beamforming technology and antenna arrays. These digital integrated antenna products will be available at 2.1GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz, for FDD and TDD duplex methods.

A critical part of ReVerb’s VirtualRANTM technology, these products will be introduced to market this year. The WiMAX and UMTS/LTE versions will be rolled out in the third and fourth quarters of 2009 respectively.

In today’s economic climate, carriers face increasing pressure to reduce CAPEX and OPEX while substantially increasing the data capacity of mobile networks. VirtualRANTM addresses this market need by increasing network capacity up to 3 times, without the need for additional spectrum. With ReVerb’s PerformaBeams™ adaptive sub-sector optimisation products, both CAPEX and OPEX can be reduced by 70% based on lower lease costs, higher reliability, lower maintenance and substantially reduced network optimization costs.

For maximum flexibility, the rV300i from ReVerb and AxisNT MIMO remote radio heads use CPRI and OBSAI digital interfaces to connect to OEM base station equipment. AxisNT proprietary Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) and Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) technology will allow multiple carriers operation on each antenna path to further increase the capacity and efficiency of the network. The multiple transmitter and receiver radios remote head products will provide 10W and 8Wof output power per RF channel for LTE and WiMAX respectively within the 2GHz bands meeting the most stringent FCC and ETSI spectral masks requirements. These power levels allow the rV300i products to provide up to 62 dBm EIRP per MIMO branch into a standard 120-degree sector.

“AxisNT enables ReVerb to provide the necessary power levels for increased coverage while exceeding standards specifications and regulatory spectrum masks – critical elements in helping operators maximize their spectral efficiency,” says Bill Carlin, President & CEO ReVerb Networks. “AxisNT’s mature remote radio head technology is the most adapted platform on the market to deliver these requirements together with ReVerb adaptive sub-sectorisation software.”

“We have been very impressed by ReVerb technology and the efficiency that their VirtualRAN software adds to a BTS system,” says Simon Mellor, CEO AxisNT. “The market enthusiasm for their solution is a testimony of the quality of their design and we are very proud to have been selected as their radio remote platform supplier.”
