On 25th April 2024, the Modern Woman Show, an event hosted and presented by Rosie Coxshaw, Founder of Modern Woman, welcomed a diverse group of women from various business sectors to the Grand Connaught Rooms in London with the objective of giving them the encouragement they need to realise their power as women.

It’s no secret that women are underrepresented in almost every facet of business, and the sad truth is that though time may have moved on, many attitudes haven’t. And whilst it appears things are improving in an ebb and flow trajectory – the tide, it seems, is decidedly out of balance with a long ebb and a small flow. However, events like the Modern Woman Show are a testament to what can be achieved when women are in the room.

This annual event, now in its second year, focuses on allowing women the space to address the gender disparities in business by providing a platform for their voices to be heard, to realise that they are not alone, and to build their community through workshops, networking, speed mentoring, and presentations.

What is Modern Woman?

Modern Woman, the organisation behind this event, operates with a clear mission to support and empower women in their professional journeys.

Through a multitude of resources such as live events, podcasts, magazines, and masterclasses, the platform aims to equip women with the necessary tools to succeed in their careers.

The company also boasts an advisory board of experienced professionals from multiple industries to ensure that the content and guidance it offers are both relevant and of high quality.

The Modern Woman Show

The 2024 show is specifically catered to a wide array of industries including technology, finance, and automotive with speakers such as Coding Black Females Founder and CEO, Charlene Hunter MBE; BioSURE Founder and CEO, Brigette Bard; Angel Investor on Sky TV's 'Property Elevator', Helen Chorley; and Founder at Mother Pukka, Anna Whitehouse to name just a few.

What sets the Modern Woman Show apart is its deeply moving, relatable, and honest presentations.

The packed agenda allowed for dialogue to flow and insights of how to navigate professional environments, especially as a startup, to be gained. The talks for the day included equity, diversity, and inclusion; the challenges in seeking investment; what a mature workforce can offer business; as well as a plethora of wisdom through lived experiences. The day also navigated some practical strategies for overcoming common challenges faced by women in the workplace.

The workshops – ‘A woman’s voice: Communicating your wants and needs’, and ‘Just how social are you?’ – addressed crucial skills such as effective communication and strategic thinking, particularly in sectors where women are traditionally underrepresented. These sessions sought to inspire and to impart actionable knowledge that attendees could apply directly to their careers.

The significance of platforms like Modern Woman

In the world of business, women continue to be underrepresented at all levels, but particularly in leadership roles. In providing a dedicated space for learning and connection, Modern Woman actively challenges existing norms and promotes a more inclusive professional landscape where together everyone succeeds.

In committing to mentor and develop women professionally, Modern Woman is a vital resource to linking emerging talents and established leaders together to ensure the strength of thought and unity. This approach not only helps individual attendees to advance their careers but also contributes to the broader goal of achieving gender parity in business leadership.

Building a community

The Modern Woman Show acts as more than just a conference; it is a community-building event that celebrates and advances women's roles in business. By the end of the event, participants are equipped not only with new contacts but also with renewed enthusiasm and strategies for professional growth.

It is this blend of inspiration, education, and practical advice that underscores the event's role as an important space for women to gather and regroup with the strength of a community behind them, allowing them to navigate and excel in the business world.
