Study shows how the brain reacts to difficult moral issues
The family relationship between film characters clearly affects the reactions in the viewers' brain. The study has also detected a significant conflict between the reactions of the brain and the person's own account. Are we more prone to help the person that resembles us the most?
VR app teaches to diagnose stroke
Qualcomm Incorporated has announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. released additional findings of its landmark study, The 5G Economy.
UCLA Health launches pioneering mobile stroke unit
UCLA Health has officially launched the first mobile stroke unit on the West Coast, enabling rapid delivery of brain-saving medications to stroke patients who might otherwise face debilitating delays in treatment. As part of the first phase of a pilot program, the specialised ambulance unit and highly trained personnel began responding in September to select 911 calls in Santa Monica in coordination with the Santa Monica Fire Department.
Brain rewires itself to adjust to advanced prostheses
EPFL scientists from the Center for Neuroprosthetics have used functional MRI to show how the brain re-maps motor and sensory pathways following targeted motor and sensory reinnervation (TMSR), a neuroprosthetic approach where residual limb nerves are rerouted towards intact muscles and skin regions to control a robotic limb.
Automotive bipolar stepper motor driver IC eliminates external LDO
A new automotive bipolar stepper motor driver IC or dual DC motor driver IC that is designed for pulse-width-modulated (PWM) control of low-voltage stepper motors and dual or single high current DC motors has been introduced by Allegro MicroSystems.
High speed machining for aerospace applications
The metal cutting industry continues to develop in order to meet the advanced requirements of the various industrial applications. High speed machining meets the demands of industries which are required to produce high quality tools. These industries include the car manufacturing industry, space and aviation industries, and medical industry.
Space cables and assemblies showcased at Space Tech Expo
W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) showcased its extensive catalogue of qualified GORE Space Cables and Assemblies engineered to perform without failure in critical spacecraft systems at the Space Tech Expo Europe, 24th to 26th October 2017 Germany.
Anti-myeloma agent opens for latest treatment strategy
The tumour form multiple myeloma is very challenging to treat and is still considered incurable. In a recently published study in the scientific journal Oncotarget, researchers at Uppsala University show how inhibition of the protein BMI-1 could be used as a new strategy to treat the disease. Multiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer where immune cells grow in an uncontrolled manner in the bone marrow.
Electrical neurostimulation can improve memory
Neuroscientists at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA have discovered precisely where and how to electrically stimulate the human brain to enhance people’s recollection of distinct memories. People with epilepsy who received low-current electrical pulses showed a significant improvement in their ability to recognise specific faces and ignore similar ones.
Embark on a cognitive revolution at EPFL
Use your brainwaves to control the workings of a machine and contribute to science at EPFL ArtLab’s next art-science exhibition, "Mental Work" from October 27th – February 11th, 2018. EPFL ArtLab inaugurates the world's first cognitive symbiosis experiment, open to the public on October 27th, in the form of an art-science exhibit called Mental Work, and it’s literally thought-provoking.
