Meet and greet service robots at automatica 2018
Interact with robots and see them in action at the dedicated Service Robotics Demo Park at automatica 2018. From 19th-22nd June, in Hall B4, over a dozen exhibitors will be showcasing a wide range of professional service robots, in applications from detection and individual picking of objects, cleaning and transport to rehabilitation, personal assistance and public relations.
Surfing through the patterns that form our memory
The coordination of neural activity across widespread brain networks is essential for human cognition. Researchers have long assumed that oscillations in the brain, commonly measured for research purposes, brain-computer interfacing, and clinical tests, were stationary signals that occurred independently at separate brain regions.
Duo reveal new plans for end-of-arm tooling venture
Universal Robots and the Danish Growth Fund are planning to address the next challenge in automation with the merger of three innovative end-of-arm tooling companies to facilitate the ongoing growth of collaborative robotics, an industry expected to reach $8.5bn by 2025.
Lab-grown neurons improve breathing in rats after spinal cord injury
Researchers from Drexel University College of Medicine and the University of Texas at Austin improved respiratory function in rodents with spinal cord injuries after successfully transplanting a special class of neural cells, called V2a interneurons. Their results, published in the Journal of Neurotrauma, indicate that these lab-grown cells have the potential to one day help paralysed patients breathe without a ventilator.
Keeping robots on the move
To illustrate its capabilities within robotic equipment manufacture, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has launched a video and augmented reality brochure.
Diving deep into the search for life
Off the coast of Hawaii’s Big Island and more than 3,000 feet beneath the ocean surface lie the warm, bubbling springs of a volcano — a deep-sea location that may hold lessons for the search for extraterrestrial life. Here, NASA and its partners are blending ocean and space exploration, with a project called SUBSEA, short for Systematic Underwater Biogeochemical Science and Exploration Analog.
Robotics and big data start-ups at automatica
This year for the first time, the Barcelona Mobile World Capital Foundation (MWCapital) will take part in automatica, the exhibition for Smart Automation and Robotics, to be held from 19th-22nd June in Munich. MWCapital teams up with Messe München organising the automatica Start-up Arena in the Future and Innovation Hall B4. This will be the epicenter for entrepreneurs, investors and major corporations looking for technological solutions tha...
Quick identification of multidrug-resistant pathogens
If doctors diagnose a patient with blood poisoning, the patient will be administered a broad-spectrum antibiotic. In many cases, however, the drug is ineffective. Multidrug-resistant pathogens are often the reason why sepsis spreads through the body, resulting in the patient’s death. Antibiotic resistance tests can take several days. In the PathoSept project, Fraunhofer researchers and partners are developing an end-to-end modular system th...
Tissue markers receive FDA 510(k) clearance
Sonavex has announced that it received 510(k) clearance from the FDA to market its EchoMark and EchoMark LP soft tissue markers. EchoMark and EchoMark LP (Low Profile) are highly echogenic, resorbable polymeric implants used for marking soft tissue sites in surgical patients. EchoMark’s unique ultrasound reflective properties, created by a novel manufacturing technique, and 3D shape enable surgeons to precisely mark surgical sites for ...
Turning imaging datasets into physical objects
The world is awash in digital images, from photographs to x-rays to computer models to 3D scans. The advent of 3D printing has made it possible to take imaging data and print it into physical representations, but the process of doing so has been prohibitively time-intensive and costly.
