Microchip announces a new 16-bit PIC24 Lite microcontroller (MCU) family that combines eXtreme Low Power (XLP) technology, low price and low pin-count packages for the most cost-sensitive consumer, medical, and safety/security applications. Microchip Technology Inc today announced that it will continue to manufacture legacy 8051/80C51 MCUs that provide pin-for-pin-compatible replacements for most of those recently placed under “End of Life” (EOL) notification by NXP. Microchip expands XLP PIC MCU portfolio with industry’s lowest active current for 16-bit MCUs & new low-power sleep modes

Microchip announces the expansion of its eXtreme Low Power (XLP) microcontrollers (MCUs) with the PIC24F ‘GA3’ family, which features the industry’s lowest active current for 16-bit Flash MCUs, as well as several flexible new low-power sleep modes. The PIC24F ‘GA3’ devices feature 150 microamperes/MHz active current, as well as six DMA channels, which allow a routine to be executed with less power consumption and increased throughput.
