ASM Pacific Technology (ASMPT) is acquiring Mycronic’s subsidiary Automation Engineering, Inc. (AEi), a sensor assembly and test specialist, in an all-cash transaction.

ASM launched a major survey over the summer, asking more than 450 electronics manufacturers around the world about their situation in the coronavirus crisis, their countermeasures, and their assessment of the medium- and long-term consequences of the pandemic.

With the dawn of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) era upon the world, the usual playbook of continuous shrinking and packing more and more transistors into chipsets will become unsustainable. New AI chip architecture, materials and manufacturing processes will be needed, in order to meet the requirements and realise the potential of the AI-enabled world.

The 2019 productronica trade fair in Munich was again a success for ASM. The company’s booth was busy at all times. In particular, the live shows in the Integrated Smart Factory Arena with its robot-supported, fully automated solutions for material flows and setup changeovers as well as the complete data integration from the shopfloor to the cloud were always packed.
