Intersil has introduced WIDESound x 4 audio enhancement technology that is ideal for use where it is not possible to employ large or surround loudspeakers. Today's thin flat panel TVs and other leading-edge consumer products are simply not large enough for designers to employ traditional large multi-speaker systems. Yet consumers still demand full, rich audio quality, as well as sleek, attractive product design.
WIDESound x 4 is a multi-channel soundbar simulated virtualization effect that greatly enhances audio capabilities in flat panel TVs or other applications where full sized speakers are impractical. WIDESound x 4 utilizes the full power of a true digital signal processing (DSP) system with enhanced control of the simulated loudspeaker system. Variations of the WIDESound x 4 technology allow for soundbar implementations of two, four or six loudspeaker systems for a completely scalable architecture.

For designers of consumer electronics, Intersil's WIDESound x 4 offers access to key control parameters that enable them to customize and optimize the simulated home theatre effect. Implementation of 2-channel, 4-channel and 6-channel soundbars is possible through simple control of the available parameters in the audio processing block.
